Conventionally, the Town Hall Square of Parma will not impress you with medieval charm. Although the Palazzo Vecchio is on this square. The area is eclectic and not very harmonious. The Governor's Palace plays the role of a Town Hall. This building was once the Palace of Merchants. The hero of the Risorgimento stands in the center. Garibaldi looks about the same in the cities of Italy. Almost like Lenin in Russia. The tourist office is located on the square and this was the main reason why we were here...

Parma's main square is very impressive flanked by amazing buildings. There are places to eat and drink and it is lovely at night when the buildings are lit up

But unless you are a history buff, no more remarkable than many other squares in Italy. Banks and better shops are near, as well as some ancient churches.

This fabulous square was close to our accommodation so we spent quite a bit of time there.
It is lined with lots of bars, restaurants and shops so it’s easy to get some food or drink to enjoy there.
The local certainly do that and there is always something happening or something to see. The locals know how to enjoy their recreational time and this is a great place to see that demonstrated.

The square is surrounded by stately buildings, including the Grand Palace of the Governor, the city Council of Parma, and the Church of St. Paul the Apostle. In front of the facade of the Governor's Palace stands a bronze statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi, who played an important role in the unification of Italy

Deep in the heart of Parma where once many years ago a Roman Forum stood, is the Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi. On a wet or dry day this is a very interesting place to walk around, for on one side of the piazza is the Palazzo del Governatore with its unique clock tower and an amazing sundial on the exterior wall, that’s pretty accurately, giving the date and the time of sunrise. There is also a bronze statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi after whom the piazza is named standing in front of the main entrance.
Garibaldi was a farmer turned solider, who fought for freedom in many countries, before returning home and uniting Italy a 138 years ago. Other surrounding classical buildings of interest are the Roman Catholic church of Saint Pietro whose outside walls are decorated with the papal symbols of the tiara, festoons, and keys, by Petitot and modeled in stucco by Benign Bossi, and the Comune Di Parma building.
TIP: The number five tram runs across the bottom of the Piazza, and there are many tourist type restaurants and bars around its perimeter. Walk back a street or two and find a local bar/cafe.

It is a spacious, sunny, pleasant square, located in the heart of the city, with the statue of its denominator, Garibaldi in front of the Governor's Palace. It is bordered by several impressive buildings, including the Governor's Palace mentioned above, and a neoclassical church, St. Pietro Parma also draws attention. Here you can find tourist information and the impressive Palazzo Fainardi building. There are also many shops and restaurants on the ground floor of the houses. It isn’t the most beautiful piazza that I have seen in my entire life, but worth for a half an hour stroll around.

This square is very definitely the heart of the traditional old city district of Parma, built over where the Roman Forum was originally located. It’s surrounded by lovely classical buildings and has an imposing statue of the man who unified Italy as its focal point.

This is a nice open square in the historical area of Parma. There's a big building to one side with a nice facade, a statue of Garibaldi of course and from here you can explore some of the smaller cobbled lanes.
