With a Greek cross symmetric shape and 4 chapels one on each side it is quite an unusual church. It is richly decorated with frescoes and a beautiful cupola. It has a big pipe organ. Absolutely a must-see in Parma.

It's not a huge church, but with its rarely-seen design (built on a plan of a Greek cross) and beautiful decorations, some by Parmiganino, exploring it is a well-spent 15-20 min!

This Renaissance church, the Shrine of Santa Maria della Steccata is unique it its design: a Greek-cross. Located in Parma, Italy; the name "steccata" is a kind of fence that was used to control the many devotees who visited a venerated image of the Madonna...More

This odd shape church, it has got a shape closer to of a Greek Orthodox Church with the Greek cross, has got quite interesting frescoes inside. After seeing the cathedral this church was a bit of a disappointment

This is a large Basilica on Piazza Della Steccata in Parma. As with many other Italian Basilicas, inside it is incredibly ornate with lovely artwork and a crypt to explore. Very nice.

Had the opportunity to attend Mass here on Palm Sunday. A beautiful Basilica. Is very intimate although it appears huge from the outside. Definitely worth a visit to see the artwork and attend Mass.

From outside it is even hard to make a photo from the church as there is no perspective - small streets around. You can only value it, when you enter and look around.

I popped inside the basilica while wandering around the centre of Parma. The external architecture is beautiful but it is definitely worth spending ten minutes or so to go inside and see the murals and especially the dome. The Italians certainly did not spare any...More
