I somehow snuck into here for free... just breezed past the cashier/till. I'm kind of glad I did because even though the mosaic floor is lovely, all the extensive wall plaque information is only in Italian. It only takes about 5-10 minutes otherwise to see the floor. Glad my little guidebook (in English) filled in the gaps. Otherwise not 100%... More

We enjoyed this quiet underground excavation of the floor of an old Roman house. The mosaics are very nice, historically interesting, and you get quite close, plus there is some development of the house plan and how this all fits together. Not as breathtaking as the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, San' Apollinare di Nuovo, San' Apollinare in Classe but still... More

These mosaics from a Byzantine palace are interesting but suffer from comparison with the amazing mosaics in the main basilicas. There are a couple of outstanding designs: the dance of the seasons and the good shepherd.

This is a really cool site with some wonderful mosaic floors still in situ. Not the sort of thing you get to see regularly. Definitely worth visiting if you're in Ravenna.

behind a church, in the historic centre, you can find this museum. You get to see the mosaics of a house/villa of the roman times. really big, beautifull. we were with a guide and got a good explanation of the history and the mosaics. it is really a nice exhibition, with raised walkways so you get a good impression of... The mosaics are wonderful and well-exhibited, the museum is near San Vitale church, in the historic centre, the set up is in English too.

Extensive collection of late Roman mosaics, which are displayed wonderfully. Raised walkways allow you to walk through the extensive and well-lit rooms. The audioguide is a must, and does a very good job of explaining what you are seeing.

Having spent the last week in Ravenna and seen most of the sights this still surprises and amazes. It has style and beauty. Do go to see it.

Just a bit from the historic center you find these mosaic floor pieces that will take your breath away. Not as flashy in color as the churches, but these Roman works make up for it in intricacy of pattern and size.
