If you are interested in fortifications, this is certainly the place to see if visiting the city. The outer enclosure is an attempt on a park, although a bit unkempt. Saved by a nice café to while away a few minutes. Not always possible to see inside the Rocca itself, but the gateways and walls are worth a look.

Inside the wall there is a public park you take take a nice stroll in. The portals are beautiful and it is a relaxing place, with a free parking next to it.

Coming from the Ravenna railway station and heading towards the Mausoleum of Theodoric, along the route you will see one of the most tangible proofs of the Venetian rule over the city the Rocca Brancoleone Fortress.
Due to the time it was, we had the opportunity to see it illuminated at night, it is worth stopping there and enjoying a walk in the park that occupies it
The fortress has become today a place to meet and have a good time, hosting events and cultural festivals.
The main point of the fortress was the Rocca (or Ridotto), a wide quadrilateral with four imposing circular towers set at the corners. The towers are connected with each other thanks to enceintes
All around, the fosse surrounded the castle

This must have been an incredible castle complex in its day and a lot is still standing. You can just wander in for free, which is great.

There is a nice, relaxed park (with a bar) in the middle of the castle. In general it is a lovely place to go for a walk and not far from the station.

At 18.30 there is no place to sit down at the table as they keep the reservation of ten free tables till 20.30 saying they are occupied and waiting for the people going out from the Ravenna festival as they surely will spend more money. Buisness is buisness

Felt like I was a 10 year old boy playing in this wonderful fort. Walls around are wonderful. Looks like they have concerts in the enclosed inner castle. I say a must to see and stand inside of.

I arrived to this stronghold by chance but it impressed me. You can visit the ruins and the stronghold that now is a park. Not many people know this place but I encourage you to visit this misterious medieval castle opened to everybody.

The "Rocca Brancaleone" (Brancaleone Fortress) was built during the 15th century, today the walls enclose a public park.

The park looks shabby, and the fortress buildings look unkempt, with scaffoldings that looks like they have been abandoned for years.
