This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and rightly so. The first church on the site was built soon after Christianity was legal in the 300's. This is the fourth church on the site but the magnificent floor is from the 4th century and various pieces are from other incarnations up to the 15th century ceiling. Be sure to get... More

This is still a functioning church and free to visit apart from the crypt. Well worthy of inclusion as part of this world heritage site

Unlike other Italian religious architectural heritage, this one is noted for the magnificent mosaic floor which has been almost completely preserved! The frescoes at the back of the alter are also quite interesting. A must see!

It was the second time I went to Aquileia. The Basilica is definitely beautiful, the atmosphere as well as the spectacular mosaic on the floor. All the city gives you an idea of what could it be to live in Romans' times. Within a sunny day it becomes really a suggested visit. I suggest also the cemetery on the back... More

We were traveling from Grado to Venice when we stopped to visit this attraction. This grandiose ancient building is a must-see sight with its original ancient mosaic floor and frescos. The view is beautiful from the tower. Don't miss the opportunity to visit this historical place if you are in the region.

UNESCO world heritage in Italy. Aquileia, with its immense archaeological site and its Patriarchal Basilica, is an artistic and historical treasure trove. Located in Udine Province. It was also one of the largest and richest Mediterranean cities. Aquileia’s Patriarchal Basilica, built c. 1000, and brilliant with its magnificent 4th-Century mosaics. It is an impressive work of religious architecture.

It's a lovely basilica, very ''ordinary'' made without ''kitsch'' stuff. The mosaics are incredible!

Today decided to visit this place after being informed its worth a visit. Started by visiting all sites which were recently excavated I must say it was well explained on different sights on boards. After asking the tourist information office who were very pleasant and well informed about the history of the sites and the Basilica I was directed to... More

Modern design to show the best mosaics on the floor.Great to explore and feel the ancient Christianity development. The same visit you pay for crypts, surprising baptistery and tower (was closed at my visit).
