We had hoped to ride the Opicina tram during our April visit, but it is not running yet, after a collision last year. Apparently replacement parts are a problem. We could have taken a bus, but opted for other excursions.

The replacement service is bus "2/" -- which departs from the bus stop for bus 36 at Villa Della Ceppa between Piazza Dalmazia and Via Fabio Filzi. Tickets are 1.25 Euro per parson each way to and from Oberdan, and can be purchased from a local tabacchi (buy all at once and be sure to validate inside the bus each... More

Two train-cars crashed into each other!! So now the whole thing is not running at all!! What a joke this thing is! They're not going to get back online anytime soon. Everyone loves parking their cars on the tracks where the train used to run!!

As others have written, the tram isn't running at the moment. However, some had written that there was a replacement bus and that the views were magnificent. Personally i was disappointed. I didn't see many views, despite being there in February when the trees are not in leaf. For me I think the main attraction is the unusual tram, so... More

When you get on this tram, it is like jumping back into the past. Another rhythm, another pace. It slowly brings you up the hill towards Opicina and the view that you get from above is woth the time invested. A local legend says that if a student gets on this tram, he will never graduate. But many students proved... More

Only had a short stay in Trieste in late Oct and was very much hoping to ride the famous tramway. Unfortunately that wasn't to be possible as it was definitely closed. The route itself looks interesting so it was a pity to miss it.

The tram is a really nice way to climb up to the Carso and see Trieste from above. There's also a really nice walk that goes from the obelisk to Prosecco. Unfortunately they had an incident earlier in the year so it's closed at the moment but once it opens it's definitely worth a visit.

We were going to take the tram to Opicina but it was not running. There was however a replacement bus which was great and ran as often as the tram. It was a number 2 bus and cost 1.75, just a standard ticket you can buy at the tobacconist The views were magnificent. The journey was good and from there... More
