Wanted to try it out. It has been „temporarily“ taken out of service. We used the bus to get to Opicina. Pity.

The Opicina Tramway is out of service for at least a year; as regular visitor of Trieste for the past 2 years, I haven't seen it working, and nobody can give a prognosis. However, there is a nice booklet available in bookshops specializing on travel,...More

Incase you are thinking of taking a ride on the Opicina Tramway, it's closed probably until next year. Well according to the Lady in the Ticket kiosk. There are however Buses running the same route. I did not use it as I wanted the Tram...More

It is a terrible shame, but this would be a major tourist attraction in Trieste but it has not been in operation for some two years. I can't understand why the authorities have not stepped in and taken over the running of the tramway. When...More

It looks like a nice ride, but we were disappointed to find out it was no longer working. Apparently it has been in disrepair for some time. Wish we knew it before investing time to visit it.

Such a shame that these beautiful teams/funicular are still not operational. The journey from Trieste to Villa opicina is worth doing by bus, for the views at the top by the obelisk, and for the walks in the Napoleonic woods, but would be much more...More

If you know the song it once crashed into a house. More recently the one going up crashed into the one coming down. I am assured that it will all be fixed for the Barcolana in October. I am not so sure.

Very disappointed that it is no longer in service. Bus 2 takes a quicker route up the hill. Beautiful scenery though. Lovely village at the top.

Sadly the tram broke down about a year ago and it does not look like it will ever be put back into service - some of the lines appear to have been concreted over. The service has instead been replaced by bus 2
