This is a truly wonderful little castle with delightful gardens, built originally for members of the family of the Emperor of the Habsburg Empire. There is a splendid period interior but the main strength of the castle must be its stunning location overlooking the Gulf...More

I walked all the way from Trieste (yes, it took me about two hours in the warm autumn sunshine!) but it was well worth it. I was expecting to pay, but for some reason, it was free on Sunday 7th October! It’s a folly in...More

Very interesting to see how royalty lived in their day. Interesting background to the place. We took the audio-guided tour and thought it was well worth the price. About getting there and back. There are at least two ways into and out of the property....More

Got number six bus from Trieste train station for €1.50. 15 minute walk from terminus to Castle. Lovely gardens with tearoom. Interesting castle with lots of paintings and beautiful furniture. Well worth spending 2 to 3 hours.

I'd always been fascinated by the strange story of Maximilian, Emperor of Mexico, so had to see his fairy tale castle on the way to Trieste. It was surprisingly easy to park nearby, although expensive. Don't park too close in or you will miss the...More

This is very accessible from Trieste by bus and has both fabulous gardens and interior. It is also in the most idyllic site. A must see.

Don’t miss this wonderfully presented castle if you are in Trieste. Situated just on the outskirts of the city, but easy to reach by bus, the castle sits on a promontory which juts out into the sea and has been set up as it was...More
