Had a great walk in the beautiful Rosandra Valley leading up to the Slovenian border. Part of the largest Nature reserve, a stream runs through it, rocky limestone landscape with high cliffs and a rich flora. The walk was made possible for us because we found a website - Curiosi di Natura societa co-operativa - an initiative of some dedicated... More

If visiting Trieste, you have to go there. It is a plateau that overlooks the gulf and the city of Trieste. The view is wonderful and the food, which is derived from the Italian, Slovenian and Austrian cultures is exceptional.

Ask at the amazingly helpful Tourist Information Centre for bus routes and maps. The 2 and the 4 go up to Opicina but get off at the obelisk and you can walk along a divine panoramic path that goes on to Prosecco where you can get the 42 back. Make sure you have your tickets though - good to buy... More

The carso is truly a wonderful landscape, a mixture of bare but wonderful rocky slopes and patches of the Mediterranean maquis. Home to the native slovenian-speaking population it offers many little cities each with its own folklore and tradition. I suggest visiting it for the many hikes it offers and the wonderful places in which to eat.

Beautiful in every season, it's an amazing place for hiking or riding the bike! From most of the trails you can see the sea and if you are lucky you can meet some deer!

Is it the right place for walking in an unusual landscape or to ride your bicycle on the nice tracks? Is it better to use your car to reach one of many "omiza", typical local taverne where enjoy local products and homemade wine, or feel the wind in face riding your motorbike on wonderful roads in the middle of the... There are small country roads winding near the Slovenian border that offer great walks, hiking, great restaurants that grow their own food or at least it is grown locally. If you see an upside down bouquet (usually dried leaves) you can follow it to an Agrotourism place to eat. They can be very simple or more complete offerings. Monasteries and... More

Carso is the area behind Trieste: a hilly place with special flora and fauna due to its geological characteristics. Small rivers run underground and form caves which are the delight of speleologists. It is home to wild orchids and particularly beautiful in the autumn when the reds and yellows of the leaves are stunning Both in the Italian and Slovenian... More
