My wife and I visited the synagogue on the one of the mornings when there was a scheduled one hour tour (10 and 11:30----check to see days as they are given only a few times a week). The synagogue is impressive----has the interior (and exterior)...More

We only were able to see the exterior as it was a Saturday and service would have disallowed. Further, I think you need to be invited to visit, but looking and knowing the structure was worth the time.

Jewish or not, this is a must see. They are very strict with their tour times, but it is worth making the effort. You will learn a great deal about Triestian history and the significance of this place of worship which has survived two world...More

This is one of the largest synagogues in Europe and is worth walking past for that reason alone. It's a bit of a hike from the old town but is still worth a look. I didn't go inside (don't think it was open in the...More

Huge, basilica-like synagague, built in 1912 when Trieste had a substantial Jewish community. Check visiting times carefully -- we had to argue our way in.

One of the largest synagogues of Europa. It is a huge building from outside, and inside is very nicely decorated. YOu can learn the importance of the Jews in the history of Triest.

You suddenly encounter this monument and it is majestic in appearance. It was built in 1912 and of of the largest in Europe. It was not open for guided tours when we were there so had to content ourselves with the exterior - good for...More

I did the tour as a solo this past August. Just get to the synagogue on time. The English guide was part of the admission fee and she was very knowledgeable about the history of the building.
