Very nice, I think the eating part is been recently new desingned. It's a modern restaurant between some concept eating stores where you can choose from. It's not the old fashioned way that you eat at the shopping stand of the markets. Around lunchtime it's difficult to find a chair so better to come around 12 or after 13.30

There is a range of food stalls, selling a variety of dishes. We had the pizzas which were excellent. Apart from that, the place is big, loud and busy. No real character, though the attached food market is worth a look.

If you are expecting a Mercato or market similar to Barcelona’s famous one just off Las Ramblas, you might be in for a little disappointment; however Genoa’s Mercato Orientale has enough to make any photographer pull out their camera. It’s easy to locate with its main entrance on Via XX Settembre (about a 10 minute walk from Piazza de Ferrari) where racks of flowers sit on the sidewalk and the torn green awnings flap in the wind, over the former cloister’s arched doors. The main venders sell fruit and vegetables with a few fish, meat, cheese, flowers and spice shops interspersed. Whatever is in season will be artistically stacked in pyramids of color or neat rolls just begging to be bought. The best time to visit is in the morning when the fish are still jumping and the aroma of fresh basil is pungent. Many Genovese consider this market a bit overpriced but with good produce, once you get to know the vendors! A few things to keep in mind: Watch your belongings and your money. If you wish to purchase some fruit or vegetables first watch how the transaction occurs with other costumers. Most vendors don’t want you touching their fruit! (Plastic gloves are provided in the produce section of all Genovese grocery stories, so you don’t touch the fruit and veggies!) Check your produce before you leave, as some vendors who pick out your produce for you, may not give you the nicest pieces! Also check your change; the Genovese are known for short changing everyone, not just tourists! Finally, enjoy the market; its fun and a little slice of life in Genoa!

We always take time to visit the market. Such a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables along with salami, other meats, cheeses, nuts, breads etc.. We usually buy some fresh fruit to take to our hotel. A nice opportunity to see the local people in action.

I happened to be staying near Mercato Orientale and wasn't sure what it was when I walked past it one day and saw lots of locals rushing to and from it, but I found it to be a great market!

There is all sort of produce (not just food) there. I bought a lot of food to take back with me as they had everything I wanted (lots of cheese, nuts, and olives).

My only suggestion is if you spot something you want, check the prices on the other stalls and haggle a bit if you can.

Even if you don't want to buy anything, have a walk through and see the locals buying things and see what they sell here that they don't elsewhere.

A place where smell, taste, see and live any food or drink from local producers and Italian ones: fresh and convenient. Kind people will help you in choosing the best fir you.

One of my first activities in Genoa was to visit Mercato Orientale. I will preface my rating by saying that I only bought some pastry and bananas while I was at the Mercato Orientale. But I absolutely loved the "vibe" of this market. I saw incredibly fresh fish, may types that I have never seen before. The fresh pasta looked so appetizing as did all the cheeses. I wish I could have bought some interesting items and had someone cook them for me.

It really is a worthwhile Genoa tourist spot. Go there and soak in the atmosphere.

I was staying with friends in Genova for almost a month, so I went to Mercato Orientale a few times. I give this market a "Very Good" rating because of the quality of the products and the service received from the vendors. My Italian is ok but its not great, the different stands I went to were all very patient with me, friendly and helpful. The prices are not necessarily better than what you would get at a supermarket but the quality was great and I prefer to support local farmers and vendors over large corporations.
Location, it is in the center of the city so you can easily dip in just to take a look or do you shopping and not have to go out of your way. It could be a little better lit and renovated a little but overall a very good market.

I enjoyed the wide selection of food and drinks which would suit every taste. The prices are very reasonable and the staff are friendly (except for the lady selling ice cream by the entrance who was a bit uptight). The bus stop at the door so easily reachable. I would recommend adding more tables as it would be difficult to find a place during peaks

We were led to believe the building was fabulous. But it was just a market. We love to wander round non-uk markets because they always seem better than ours. It was just a market
