Travelled with friends from Sheffield England on Boxing day for a 3 night 4 day stay. 30 minutes by public transport to City Alta which,as the name implies, overlooks the main city of Bergamo. Stayed almost opposite the main square which houses the cathedral & serves as a central point by which to explore the old city. Would probably need... More

We were recommended to visit Bergamo by someone whose daughter worked here and he said how lovely the place was. He wasn't wrong! Intact medieval walled upper town (old town, 'Citta Alta') and the more sprawling lower town (Citta Bassa) spreading out over the plain below. Old town grew up in medieval times and trade developed with people living in... More

Only few klms away from Bergamo airport, the city of Bergamo is a picturesque place! If you have few hours to spend before your flight, I strongly recommend you visit the Old Town of Bergamo and walk around the pebble streets. Small clothes boutiques, cafés and restaurants are all over! We bought some marenga sweets from a pastry shop and... More

We booked a cheap two-nighter in Bergamo with the intention of spending a day in Milan. However, we found Bergamo so attractive and interesting that we never made it to Milan! The Citta Alta is an absolute treasure - fabulous views from the walls of the old city, plenty of cafes and restaurants and wonderful historic churches and squares. We... More

Had a coach trip to a hidden gem of an old city with medieval walls and buildings steeped in history. It was fascinating on a guided walk around some of the building and the old street but not enough time to do it do it all justice in the little free time before the coach left

Spent a day in Bergamo while waiting or flight and what a surprise it turned out to be. Got the bus from the airport to the Citta Alta and walked the beautiful narrow streets lined with lovely shops and restaurants. Wandered into some stunning churches and sat in the sun in the square and watched the world go by. There's... More

Lovely city, the perfect way to see Italy, as the Italians see it. Beauiful combination of old and new, get out of the popular cities and see Italy.

We took a train ride from Milano to Bergamo for a day. A quaint old city set on a hill. Lots of charm and old structures to enjoy. Spent most of our time at Piazza Vecchia (the Old Square). Recommend this trip for a day away from the bustle of Milano.
