Wander round the well preserved old town walls or sit on one of the many seats and just look out over the new town below. Walk up the many narrow streets into the centre and take in one of the many excellent eateries. Lovely place to relax for a long weekend - or more.

After lunch we decided to visit the Carrara Academy. As our expert friend Girella said, on a day of reasonable temperature we can walk and have an exceptional view of Citta Basa. An easy walk through a small park. Really an end point to a nice visit. But leaving the taste of a return soon.

Cinta muraria or the Medieval city walls were built to protect Bergamo city from enemies. These walls enclose Città alta on top of the hill, then walking along them gives you the opportunity to enjoy an incredible view over the lower modern part of Bergamo and on all the green hills nearby. The cliff is gentle, you can take it... More

This is a beautiful of city with its upper and lower levels and stone Venetian walls. From Cinta Muraria di Bergamo you get a good appreciation of the lower part of the town. The best way to see the area is by walking both up and down the hill.

A must in Bergamo with hundreds of spots for great photos. Some parts were being renovated when we visited.

We took bus No A1 from opossite the train station, to the old town and got off at the end of the route at ''Colle Aperto''. Turning left we saw the sign to San Vigilio funicular but didn't have enough time. So, we started walking downwards throught the old city, found Piazza Vecchia and lower we stopped at this beautiful... More

Walked part of the way on the walls and were rewarded with beautiful views of the lower town as well as an appreciation of what walled cities were like. Don't think you will be able to circumnavigate the upper town in a short time frame as the distances are further than you think. If you get tired, just bail out... More
