A small, intimate local church with somewhat of a mishmash of romanesque and gothic features. The highlight is probably the three frescos above and to the sides of the altar, but don't miss the unusual dead christ which is apparently carried around the town every Easter. If you're in Bellagio you should certainly pay a visit for a minute or two.

A charming church in marvelous Bellagio. The Basilica of San Giacomo was built at the turn of the 11th and 12th centuries. It is three-nave with a bell tower on the left side of the facade. The interior is richly decorated with works of art from different historical periods, including a painting attributed to Perugino, and valuable mosaics in three chapels. Definitely a nice touch to the town architecture.

This landmark located in lovely Bellagio can be seen as you arrive by boat.
It is of Romanesque style with a stone facade and has an attached bell tower.
The church was built in the 12th century.
Its well worth visiting this pretty church.

If you’ve visited thousands of churches around the world as we have, San Giacomo won’t be one of the most gorgeous of those. It’s relatively unremarkable inside, although the altar and the brickwork throughout are memorable. It’s most remarkable physical feature is probably the mighty bell tower seen from the exterior.
Perhaps its most incredible characteristic is that the church is very old, with an unknown construction date, and will celebrate its 1,000-year anniversary around the year 2050. We found its endurance far more impressive than its tangible qualities. If you happen to be walking by in the heart of Bellagio, sure, duck your head in and give it a peek. Just don’t plan your entire itinerary around it.

San Giacomo is not the most impressive church we visited on our trip, but its rich history sure is worth the stop. Almost 1,000 years in the making, with a tall bell tower and ornate altar. Right in Piazza della Chiesa, we easily incorporated the visit with our walking tour through old town.

Great little church in such a small town on the other side of the lake, would imagine all those centuries ago building such a church in that location would have been difficult.
After traveling around Europe for 6 months and seeing hundreds of churches would say this would be any where near the top, but nice church to go in a look around.
Does have a nice bell tower that has a nice ring to it.

From the bouvelard to this church is a short climb of the stairs through the pitouresk village of Belaggio. The church itself looks good from the outside and is free to visit. The interior is a little bit sober. The altar looks nice, lots of gold. A visited only takes a couple minutes, not too much to see but if you are in Bellagio nice to visit it.

We spent a few days in bellagio and it’s a beautiful place to walk round with fantastic views. This is just one of the interesting buildings you will pass while walking. It’s really near the start of the walk to a little harbour that’s about half a mile out of town but well worth the walk

Such a lovely little church in beautiful Bellagio town. Quite the opposite of the grand St. Peter's basilica but so worth seeing. So much beauty within, stop in, light a candle and say a prayer.

When is it open? I am there now.

Not certain, we were there mid day. As with most Catholic Churches, they post a sign listing the hours they are open along with Mass times.

When I was visiting Italy with my best friend and her mom we stopped in the Basilica di San Giacomo. After saying a few prayers ( about 20 rows back from the altar) I turned and on one knee I I whispered to my best friend "Will you marry me" She did accept! I have a picture outside, but I would love to have a picture from the back facing the altar. This would always be a treasured memory.
Thank-you for any help in this matter.

The only photo I have of the altar is the one which I have already put on TripAdvisor. Not sure if that's any good. I do not have one from the back of the church, sorry.
