About
Lecco's clock tower is the second highest tower in Italy and one of the highest in Europe. Now it's possible to visit it, in some days and only with reservation, thanks to the project that aims to revalue this monument. It will be a unique experience that will lead from the full of history basement of the tower up to the terrace on top of it from where you can admire a full 360 view of the city, the lake and its mountains.

Who goes to Lecco recommend climbing to the top of the bell tower, about 96 meters, in total safety. Easy route, beautiful views of the lake and Lecco, often you stop to listen to the guide, friendly staff, nice and above all super prepared. Thank you.

Lecco is a small town surrounded by beautiful mountains and crossed by the lake. The icing on the cake is the bell tower of San Nicolò. I highly recommend climbing up to the bells and then, with a ladder, get to the terrace to admire a breathtaking landscape!! Very good guides!

Campanile San Nicolò is the first time that my family and I have climbed, a wonderful experience, we found a young and very good guide who explains the curiosities and the stages very well. Once you reach the top where the bells are you can enjoy a wonderful view of Lecco. We will definitely be back. Highly recommended

An even more beautiful experience if done like us at sunset!
An appreciation to all the volunteers/guides who accompany you on the visit... let the visitors perceive your passion, keep it up!
A special thank you to Messrs. Marisa and Fabio who gave a child who was passionate about bells the thrill of ringing one with a small hammer :-)

We’re used to nickname it “Il Matitone” (Italian for “The Big Pencil”). I only climbed it once, when I was in high school and were hosting several students from various European countries for a cultural exchange. I suffer from both dizziness and claustrophobia, so you can imagine how scared I was when I was on the stairs. But the panorama was breathtaking and absolutely worthing it!

The visit was beautiful, very interesting when we arrived at the bells the view was 360 degrees at sunset....wonderful and then we climbed right to the top via a steep ladder...but it was worth it.
The climb is easily tackled as at every turn of the steps, the very good and friendly Luca, who acted as our guide with interesting explanations and funny anecdotes, stopped to let us catch our breath!
Highly recommended... you need to book your visit online.

The belfry is about 96 meters high and is called Il Matitone. It towers over the city against the background of the mountain range. A very characteristic and unique view, especially from the nearby promenade along the lake. The belfry with a unique structure, unique in its style. If you want to reach the top, you need to book an appointment online. You will be able to select a time slot when booking. There are about 400 steps to get to the top.

I loved the bell tower. The tour is in Italian but they have an audio tour in English (and maybe other languages). It is worth going up the tower for the views over Lecco and the lake. If you don’t like heights then the climb up is by open stairs and ladders (my husband chose not to do the tour once he saw inside). It is free and is run by volunteers - there is a box at the end where they politely ask for a donation of your choosing.

Easily climbable with many steps. Congratulations to our guide Luca for having explained to us in a very interesting way the whole history of the construction of the bell tower. Spectacular view made even more wonderful by the sunset and the city decorated for Christmas.
