This church has unbelievable interiour. Built as example for renaisance, it has absolutely incredible frescos that you mean they are reliefs (3D), but that's just an ilusion. From the main entrance it takes your breath away and when you look at the walls, you would sure say it's relief.

It was a great surprise - a stunning interior at no charge. Not a customary event in Italy, yet unforgettable! A must - see!

When we passed by this place it was closed over the extended lunchtine so went back at 3pm when it reopened. It was interesting enough but i would say no more than that. Fortunately entrance was free, we spent about 15 minutes on a brief tour. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the town

This church was one of the first great classical buildings since antiquity and together with the Palazzo Te is unmissable. On a very constricted site Giulio Romano managed to construct a magnificent triumphal arch of a facade in a smallish square. Nothing will prepare the first time visitor for the magnificence of the interior. Obviously not as big as St... More

On the basis we knew that in the height of the summer holidays we were not going to queue all day to see inside St Marks Basilica in Venice, we travelled to Mantua (or Mantova if you prefer) to have a look around and what a surprise! The whole ancient town is worth a wander but this large basilica is... More

This is certainly one of the biggest churches i visited. It is a "must see" in Mantova. Great architecture and really awesome paintings that look like they're sculptures carved in the walls. Really impressive

One of the must-see buildings in Mantova. Be aware that photography is not allowed inside the basilica. In the center is the famous vial buried (won't spoil it for you with info) A must see, and take your time to view the paintings. Breathtaking.

It's the most beautyful basilica I've ever seen. Fantastic frescoes on the walls looking sometimes like 3D sculptures, all the interior of the basilica is overwhelming. It's absolutely to be visited if you're in the area or it's even worth a trip for it.

If you do nothing else in Mantova, come here. It's such a special place. The architecture will take your breath away. And it's free.

We visited Mantua on our 9 day tour of Italy. What makes this church different that all the rest we visited on our tour (including St. Peter's Basilica in Rome) is that the walls are painted not carved. It is simply stunning. You will be fooled into thinking there are frames, carvings, and plaster casts covering the ceiling and walls,... More
