So very Romanesque - The church and bapistery are worth it

We visited the Roman Theater and the Guisti Garden then made our way back over the Ponte Pietra and headed to the Duomo. The walk to get there was very quaint and picturesque. The Duomo started in the 12th century and was built over a period of a several hundred years. This was also covered on our Verona card. We... More

Cattedrale di San Pietro is a roman catholic cathedral in the city center in Piazza Sordello and is a seat of the bishop. The front part is baroque and has gothic tower, so is very interesting for the mixure of styles. Interior is very beautiful.

I liked the interior of the duomo built originally as a Romanesque church with later additions. The external porch and facade is also fine. I like religious buildings which are les rather than more so not too much baroque decoration no matter how fine the talent is in decorating a church. It was also a good place to watch some... More

Quite small for a duomo but very pretty inside. Quite a lot to see with various side chapels, etc. but I think I'm a bit jaded as it seemed very like the many other churches I've seen in Italy. I preferred sitting in the amazing square outside surrounded by beautiful old buildings including the palazzo.

I love the different exterior architectural features of the Cathedral. The interior is even more interesting and worth a visit. I was amazed at the number of pillars and the artwork is beautiful.

The photos do this attraction justice. If you are in Mantova this is worth seeing. However, if you expect to be overwhelmed by the size of this Duomo then you will be disappointed. Small but beautiful.

Currently I live in an apartment behind the duomo, and wake to the bells every morning -- very cheery. It's not an immensely imposing structure, but it is attractive and cozy. The facade dominates piazza Sordello, the main square of Mantua. The interior has many decorated side chapels with and artwork. General interior decoration is attractive. The duomo is generally... Spent a while looking around this cathedral. What is interesting is the number of different styles of architecture. There is also some interesting artwork and carvings in both stone and wood.
