The Palazzo d'Arco is a late eighteenth century neo-classical mansion. It is vast and gives a horribly real insight into the gulf between the classes of Italian society in the period. The almost endless enfilade of rooms is very interesting and they contain some very bad paintings indeed. The guide who takes the visitor around does her talk in Italian... More

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour which is led by a tour guide who was very interesting and knowledgeable - it was good to tour a house which still felt like a home and our tour guide who spoke good enough English was very informed about the house and the family who used to own it. Definitely worth a visit. We... More

After visiting places which although beautiful were somewhat bare of furnishings, etc. it was nice to go around this palace and see their possessions ranging from 15th to 20th century stuff. I particularly enjoyed seeing the newly opened bedroom of the last countess who died their in 1979 aged 103. You can only go round with a guide and only,... More

18th Century palace now open as a museum with the rooms in their original decorative schemes housing the collection accumulated in the house by the D'Arco family up to the 19th Century. Though this is worth seeing from a social history perspective alone, and also from the perspective of an art lover or someone interested in decorative works, there are... More

If you can speak Italian, I would recommend the guided tour - around an hour in length and a guide who clearly knows a lot about and cares a great deal for the palace. For those unable to speak Italian, the guide book is adequate, although an audio guide would be perfect for the many treasures that are contained in... More

I am sure the Palazzo d'Arco does not deserve one star, but I am not sure how else to warn Trip Advisor users not to go to Mantua in order to visit the Palazzo d'Arco. It recently closed for restoration work and the notice does not indicate when it is scheduled to re-open.

Thanks to a local man who advised me to visit the Palace I went there and was really charmed by its interior. It is a grand palace, with the atmosphere and the furniture and everything around you as it was lived in centuries ago.
