Central Station represents a bridge towards the future. Impressive skyscrapers and new age buildings stretch the skyline with the majestic Unicredit Tower cutting through. Surrounding it are large towers that define Piazza Gae Aulenti, where the fountain and the Monumento Trombe leave one breathless. A famous building of the district is the Vertical Forest, where the innovative materials and trees planted on the terraces are a unique mix of nature and man-made construction. In the district, there is the Monumental Cemetery, known for its antique tombs with sculptures portraying angels of commemorative scenes many will find touching.

This skyscraper is emblematic of Milan's post-war economic boom.
It was built between 1955 and 1960 as the headquarters of Pirelli Industries.
With its heght of 127 metres, it was at that time one of Europe's talles reinforced concrete buildings, displaying a balance between form and structure that has yet to be surpassed.
Many people love it many oters hate it, if you love architecture like me , you will definetly love it.

Pirellone , ( big Pirelli ) this is the name the milanese people gave it right away, given that it was the largest and tallest skyscraper in Italy in 1960, when they finished it.
Until 1966 it also held the record for the tallest skyscraper in the European Union.
Beautiful example of Italian rationalism.

The Pirelli Tower (127 m) is one of the landmarks of post-WWII Milan. Completed in 1958, it used to be the tallest skyscraper in Italy; nowadays, it is just the 4th tallest building in Milan. While you cannot enter the building, it is worth seeing face to face if you enjoy modern, essential but elegant architecture. The design of the building, by Giò Ponti, is appreciated and, by the way, it was the inspiration for the MetLife Building in NYC.

The easiest way to reach the Pirelli building is to take any metro to Central Station. The whole area (including the station itself) deserves a visit if you're not in a hurry in Milan. In fact, if you walk from Central Station to Garibaldi Station (which is about 30 minutes or less), you will have the opportunity to meet most of Milan's newest shiny skyscrapers!

This Pirelli tower used to be the tallest building in Milan some decades ago. It was the symbol of industrial power in Milan. Without this history nobody would talk about the building. Yes, you can see and it is good to make a note of it and then continue.

Nothing so special with this tower in my opinion. It is said that it is like a symbol of Milan industrial history.

I past this building 2-3-4 times every day as I went back and forth between the Hilton Hotel to Stazione Centrale. And each time I looked up at its sleek design. It is now a government office so can not enter, but its location across from the train station is a great landmark for this area. Also if you are lost, you know where you are.

This skyscraper is a kind of Landmark located just in front of Stazione Centrale Milano (Central Station). As this houses Regional Government of Lombardia, we cannot freely access the building but whenever you are about to get lost near the Station, you can look for this building.
