The area

Neighbourhood: Centro Storico
The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.

You can’t travel to Milan and don’t shop here.
It’s a great experience. You find all big brands under one roof, the architecture of the building it’s stunning.

Pleasant to walk around, beautiful to look at, reasonable to eat and good for shopping in sophisticated stores. Especially at Christmas it gets even more beautiful, thanks to Christmas lighting.

Incredible architecture. Stunning design. This is where the beautiful and the rich come to shop. Which for me, is part of the problem. It’s so sad to see people display their wealth when others are really struggling right now. Such is life.

We have all heard about this famous street but it adds truth when one actually walks through it. Fully reflecting Italian (Milano) opulence and high-end fashion The Galleria is Italy’s oldest shopping mall and beautifully embellished with beautiful mosaics around fanciful windows and balconies. The glass dome that covers the whole arcade adds to the lustre. Luxury brand shops include all the who’s-who’s that we expect; From the iconic Prada store to Versace’s latest gem. Adds in other standouts like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Armani, Borsalino, Bric’s, Tod’s, Swarovski.. the list continues’
There are 2 glass-vaulted arch-shaped arcades intersecting in a joint, covering the street connecting Piazza del Duomo to Piazza della Scala (which I posted articles on too). We were here few weeks back with a tour group and spent some time here and the other 2 Piazza. It was only a Tuesday noon and there were much crowd.
The elegant nineteenth-century covered passageway that leads to the Cathedral, the Galleria's “triumphal arch” is the obvious entrance to the shopping within where one finds luxury retailers selling haute couture, jewelry, paintings & other treasured collectibles. Some F&B like restaurants, cafés, bars. Even a hotel. But most of us would just enjoy the window shopping, people watching or simply immersing in the atmosphere. Very impossible not to be awestruck by the collections showcased though..

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is a verse carved by architects. Fabulous! Crowded of course, but even that manifests how great the building is.

I was only in Milan for a day. It seems it’s all I needed. I went to see the Duomo Cathedral, which was fun. I’m here in December, so Christmas shopping is in full swing. The Christmas markets were fine. But the galleria itself is just an overhyped, overpriced, overcrowded area surrounded by high-end stores you wouldn’t bother entering because everything costs hundreds of dollars. The restaurants are way over priced for food that looks like it was microwaved. So do yourself a favor, eat outside of this area. Its so crowded that all it takes is a stampede of humans to run you over. The whole place is like hanging out at NYC’s Time Square. It gets old real fast.

You could always go online and check out the UK prices of what you want to buy before you travel to Milan. The £ has fallen so you may find some saving.
