The area
Neighbourhood: Centro Storico
The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.

The park is a great walk between the Basilica di San Lorenzo Maggiore and Basilica di Sant’Eustorgio. It is not large, but is very well kept, beautiful and relaxing. This area is one of my favorite parts of the city...

The parco delle basiliche could be easily missed by the busy tourist, but even if it's not a "must see" it's certainly worth a glance.
It starts from the back of San Lorenzo Cathedral (the one with the roman columns in front) and reach the back of another famous Milan's church: Sant'Eustorgio. The visit of both churches with their "secrets" (Sant'Aquilino and Portinari chapels) is of course highly recommended, like the visit at Museo Diocesano that is in the middle of the park, but for those see the relevant reviews.
The park is quite well kept, cut in two halves by a road and have three small playground areas for kids and two fenced area for dogs. The water of the green fountains is fresh and perfectly drinkable, like all the comunal fountains in Milan. The real plus is the central position, perfect for a fresh rest while walking around Milan center, and the sight of the back of San Lorenzo church that reveals the complexity of the structure, dating some 16 centuries back in time. There are many treats around the park selling goodies to eat under a tree: for example the excellent Ice creams by Grom some 100mt outside the park on the road crossing it or even the complete picnic set with basket and blanket rent by the California Bakery on the side of Sant'Eustorgio.
The only minus is that sometimes the lawn close to San Lorenzo could be filled by groups of youngs smoking or drinking, but going beyond the punk look, usually they are simply enjoying the park as you do, so if you stay on the path you don't even come close to them and the area is well controlled by guards and cameras, so it is to be considered perfectly safe. I often go there with my kids and never had any problem.

And it really does not have to be well maintained, but it just seemed a bit dilapidated, and between the dogs doing their business and the pigeon droppings and no one really cleaning up for either (well, there were a few people picking up after their dogs, but not much you can do about the urine, which does not work great with living greens).
I do admit there was a lively children’s party going on and everyone seemed to be having a grand olde time.
No signs of the Inquisition Tribunal of the Middle ages that found its seat in the Church of Sant Eustorgio at the park’s southern end.
I saw no witches either, but we were there before twilight.

A nice park, also known as the Park of the Basilicas, due to it being behind two of the city´s main churches: the Basilica of San Lorenzo Maggiore and that of Sant´Eustorgio. This is in fact the best place to admire the former´s beautiful romanesque chapels still standing-

It might be not "must see" place... But if you are in that area or visiting Basilica of San Lorenzo or Basilica of Sant'Eustorgio, it's worth to walk there a while.
Park isn't big but it's a beautiful place that are kept very well. There are many benches to sit and relax or you may just use the lawn. There are also small playgrounds for kids.
If you'd like to have a bite in the park, there are some places around where you can buy something to eat.
We spent half an hour there sitting on the bench, eating ice-cream and enjoying spring trees and flowers. Although there is nothing special in the park, it was a memorable time and we are truly glad we were there.

I remembered the park when it was off-limits due to the drug problem. Now it is a beautiful park in the center of the city, linking the Navigli area to the city center trough a path that leads from the restaurant area of the canals, the shopping on the mainstreets via this beautiful place. Spring weekends are the best time to enjoy it. Not to forget, if you are inclined to art, the beautiful Churches that give the name to the park. In the evening you are not far from some of the more popular spots like Colonne di San Lorenzo. All in all one of my favourite place in the city

A nice little park in the shadow of two basilicas. Go on a sunny day for nap or pick nick.

The park named after Pope John Paul II, also known as the park of the basilicas, is a fenced public green area that develops between the basilica of Sant'Eustorgio and that of San Lorenzo Maggiore, effectively connecting them to each other. Basically a normal public park, kept in fair condition.

Yesterday, in this month of October which still seems like summer, I saw again the park dedicated to the memory of Pope John Paul II.
The park is located behind the two basilicas of San Lorenzo and Sant'Eustorgio (in fact it is also known as Parco delle Basiliche) and is divided into two parts by the presence of the busy Via Molino delle Armi and the metro construction site.
Fenced and well planted, it has numerous benches, a large area for dogs and, near the exit towards Sant'Eustorgio, a plant planted and cared for by the children of the nearby nursery school.
A small green oasis.
