Loved exploring the cobble streets and exploring the lake by boat. Enjoyed the local markets. Lake Orta has the charm of yesteryear, quiet, peaceful and beautiful landscape.

we went to the St Francis shrines and Orta on a day trip from Stresa. The shrine walk is downhill into town , if you start at the top chapels. It is very interesting, but more rustic. Orta is picturesque right on the lake and...More

NOT the place to visit on a relentlessly wet and cold day out of season. Visit organised by my tour group. Had I known, I would have gone elsewhere. Three hours in continuous heavy rain, TG for a small cafe that served hot chocolate With...More

The boat rides to other towns on the lake is fun. Schedules are a little difficult to give you adequate time in some places but the views and boat ride were enjoyable. There is a lake front walk that is easy and beautiful .

My husband and I chose Lake Orta over some of the busier lakes so we could enjoy some hikes. Wow - what a gorgeous spot. We highly recommend visiting Sacro Monte and the quiet trails around San Giulio. Fantastic scenery.

There are may lakes around the Northern Italy, but this is truely a secret gem only known to Italians. Great restaurants, people and steeped in culture a must visit.

The lake is amazing whith the small Island which you can visit taking the boat. You also have a lot of walking trails in case you want to explore the lake in detail

The lake is more peaceful than it's larger siblings to the east. It has a very laid back feel and the town comes right down to edge of the lake.

We are coming from Verona and think we have that route figured out by train. After our stay in Orta San Giulio we want to get to Lucerne Switzerland. We are wondering if we have to back track to Milan to get a train towards Lacerne or if we can get a bus or train over to one of the lakes where trains run north towards Lucerne.

Ann, I'm sorry, but you seem to have accidentally attached this question to Lake Orta which is in NW Italy. You'd probably have better luck getting an answer by attaching it to a review of something in Croatia?
