Description:

The Museo delle Antichità Egizie is the only museum other than the Cairo...

The Museo delle Antichità Egizie is the only museum other than the Cairo Museum that is dedicated solely to Egyptian art and culture. Many international scholars, since the decipherer of Egyptian hieroglyphs Jean-François Champollion, who came to Turin in 1824, spend much time pouring over the collections. It was Champollion who famously wrote, “The road to Memphis and Thebes passes through Turin”.The collections that make up today’s Museum, were enlarged by the excavations conducted in Egypt by the Museum’s archaeological mission between 1900 and 1935 (a period when finds were divided between the excavators and Egypt). The Egyptian Museum in Turin has begun 2009 an important project which wants to widen spaces in order to enhance the collections through modern museographical and museological criteria. The Museum will be open all over the period of restoration and the New Egyptian Museum inauguration is scheduled for the year 2015.

I have visited the Egyptian museum twice. The first time with my daughter, and the second time with my grandson. There are lots of artifacts each with a description in various languages including English. A rare and excellent collection in the centre of Turin.

Very interesting and complete (a lot of sculptures, paintings, historic parts of buildings,...). Would only be better if it provided a bit more real-life features, as there were lots of kids around

The museum takes you through thousands of exposed artifacts, dating from the predynastic period through to the Roman times. It also provides insight into the exploration of Egypt by the Europeans and the discovery of the artifacts. It is very well organized and an audio guide is included with concise and eloquent descriptions. We thought we would spend only about... More

One of the best Egypt collection in Europe. Very interesting interior design (museum mirror-room with Egypt statues!!). Also a good option for kids up 5. Now re-opened after renovations.

You'll want to set aside at least two hours of time to do this, I'd suggest a little more to get the most out of it. Entry is €13 and an audio guide is provided in this fee. It's also very easy to find, it's in the centre of the city, close to a lot of the other major attractions.... More

This museum has been done up beautifully - Completed renovated - there is a lot to see - one thing though - the information gadget given to you with your ticket quite fiddly

It took us hours to work our way through all four floors of Egyptian artefacts! It is no exaggeration that there are over 5000 objects to see with an enormous range and variety. We were totally lost in Egypt's understanding of life after death. At the end we enjoyed some tasty Italian food in the Museum Cafe.

Having visited a few years ago it was a total suprise to see the revamped museum. They have made a fantastic job of upgrading it. The audio tour is very good and it's a must to understand all of the exhibits. One downside are the numbers of school visits, they overrun some areas and detract from the experience overall.

One of the best Egyptian museums outside of Egypt, I like the copies of some statues posted around the town as well.
