Designed in 1564 by Vitozzi. It's lined with porticoes and is the real heart of the city: here and hereabouts stand the great buildings that have witnessed the development of the city, from the ancient Roman era to our days. In the middle of the square stands Palazzo Madama and on the side you could see The Royal Theatre, The Royal Palace , the Royal Library (that houses Leonardo da Vinci 's operas). In Piazza Castello (The Castle Square) begin the most important central streets, like Rome Street, Po Street, Garibaldi Street and Pietro Micca Street.

As the name implies this piazza is the home of the castle. And a lovely building it is. There are some very nice mid-high end shops on the outskirts of this piazza. Well worth a look

Huge impressive Piazza that hosts the Royal Palace AND the Palazzo Madama. Walking tour groups gather here each day. It is also an excellent meeting place.

I am not sure I would call piazza Castello the best piazzas in Turin, as I like more intimate places. Surely it is grand and rightly, it is the gravitational center of Turin. Mostly closed to traffic, except in its Western periphery, to allow traffic...More

A place where you can see a piece of the old Italian Kingdom. The architecture of the castle and the all buildings facing on the wide square make you feel in a special place of another century. Full of people at any time it is...More
