Designed in 1564 by Vitozzi. It's lined with porticoes and is the real heart of the city: here and hereabouts stand the great buildings that have witnessed the development of the city, from the ancient Roman era to our days. In the middle of the square stands Palazzo Madama and on the side you could see The Royal Theatre, The Royal Palace , the Royal Library (that houses Leonardo da Vinci 's operas). In Piazza Castello (The Castle Square) begin the most important central streets, like Rome Street, Po Street, Garibaldi Street and Pietro Micca Street.

Well worth exploring. It is part baroque, part medieval, and largely dominated by the royal palace. The hop-on, hop-off Turin tour bus begins just across the street.

Walk the whole square, at the other side there are several was-monuments of great interest, although at nighttime, the action is towards the library/museum.

Piazza Castello is great in the evening with the mix of people milling around, lights, the four water fountains.

Truly amazing. Highly recommend the museum if you're in Turino. There really is too much to describe!!

Larger than Piazza San Carlo but felt more like an open space surrounded by 'Grand' buildings. Plenty going on within the square, it also fuses into Piazzetta Reale.

I have been passed this place time and time again over the years and this time we paid a visit. It's worth it just to see the armour and rooms.

Located in front of the impressive castle, there are some steps over here where you can sit for some time and give some rest to your tired feet. The sun remains behind your back and the place is always full of people. From here, you...More
