The Tridentine Diocesan Museum is located right downtown in Trento, close to the San Vigilio Cathedral, in the Palazzo Pretorio, which was in the Upper Middle Ages residence to the Prince-Bishops of Trento. Established in 1903 to house Diocese's artistic heritage, the Museum also hosts the early Christian basilica of San Vigilio, as well as the archeological artefacts dug out from the Cathedral ground between 1964 and 1977. The museum's permanent exhibition features a collection ranging form the thirteenth to the nineteenth century of paintings, wooden scupltures, tapestries and manuscripts, as well as a selection of vestments and the treasure of the Cathedral. All the collections are arranged in chronologial order, by author or by cultural ambit.

This is a great museum. Numerous quality artworks on display. Great view to interior of duomo from top floor. Could so easily be a score of 5 if they would provide translations for foreigners. It doesnt make sense not to educate your visitors of the...More

Dear Loreen, thank you for your review. We know that we have to improve translations for foreigners visitors and we're studying a wide range of new educational tools in italian and English. Anyway, in the Council of Trento's room there are information sheets in English...More

We enjoyed the interesting collection of paintings, wooden sculptures, bishops vestments and popes rings. Labels were only in Italian with English documents printed on separate sheets. Personally i found this hard to identify exactly which artefact was being described. The collection is great and interestingly...More

Probably one of the best cathedral/museums I have visited. Doable in an hour or so but don't miss small cubby holes in the walls. If access is not blocked off, go in. I will devulge the surprise.

We visited Trento during our recent tour of Italy. After touring the Church, we decided to visit attached museum. We are not of the Catholic faith, but still appreciated the beauty of the articles of clothing, jewelry, and other articles used in the Catholic Church....More

This is a great little museum with lots of hidden gems. Several floors and lots of rooms give the impression of a grand family house. The display of ecclesiastical garments on the top floor is particularly stunning. They also have nice toilets!

Granted, Brussels tapestries may not be up every art-lover's sleeve, but these are well-nigh a "must" anyway, and at the very least, worth a detour. But Trent in any case deserves a visit in its own right as a historic place--not to forget the former...More
