My husband and I visited Venice as the last stop on a 12-day Mediterranean cruise. We always book our excursions outside of the cruise line and found Mike and Karen's The Venice Experience through Trip Advisor. We had a wonderful experience before, during and after our trip! Even before we arrived in Venice, Karen was very prompt in responding to... More

Unfortunately, we did not review the terrible, poor, and average reviews before we booked our trip. As you will read, Karen, the person through whom the tour is booked, receives excellent reviews. However, as was consistent with our experience, if the person who Karen may use to substitute for herself leads the tour, you will be - if like us... More

I wanted to discover more than San Marks Square.Karen was able to give me an amazing introduction to Venice. She met me at my Airbnb early in the morning before the crowds , before the heat. We walked and talked for hours thru the streets of the city.Karen guided me thru the history of Venice and also ,today's Venice .... More

Tour with Karen was unforgettable. After the first day in Venice, I was under the impression that it's super crowded with tourists and shops, with huge lines to all popular museums and basilicas. Karen completely changed this impression. 90% of the tour was off the beaten path. We saw the city from a completely different prospective and fell in love... More

Our four hours with Karen flew by. Lots of information about local life, and about the history of the city. Saw the some of the sights -- and left with a feeling that this is a city I want to explore more. Really a worthwhile tour. Money well spent.

This was the perfect Venice tour. Karen shows you everything about Venice in 6 hours. We of course always do the touristy things when we travel, but we also love to see how the locals live and find out where they eat, etc. That was the best part of this tour because Karen takes you to places you would never... We opted for the 6 hour tour on our first day in Venice so we could take our time and see all the best of Venice...Mike was an excellent tour guide showing us all the major sites and many that we never would have found ourselves, along with great narrative about each...We started out from the Antiche Figure hotel(5 stars)... Karen guided us through Venice giving us history, kept us off the beaten path (which was much appreciated!) pointed out interesting tips and things to see for another visit. We were able to stop for breaks whenever the mood struck, and enjoyed the relaxing tour instead of the crazy herded cruiseline ones. Although we did not have time to tour... More

Karen has given us a fantastic overview of Venice tailored to our interests and personalities. We have seen the Real Venice by someone who lives as a local. We would highly recommend Karen's company and knowledge. We spent six glorious hours today sharing areas most tourists would never find, and avoiding the crowds. Thank you for a great experience. We... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
