Fondamenta Nova has an ACTV Stop where we reached the islands of Burano, Murano and Torcello. Make sure you go to the right stop as there are four waterbus platforms scattered along here.

Its around 20 minute walk from St Marks Suare.

Water views from this area are beautiful.

Along the northside of Venice, bordering the lagoon, is a 1 kilometer long quayside called Fondamente Nove. Fondamente is a Venetian word to mark a passage between a canal or waterway and buildings. Exceptional are the views from this quay provoking a sense of freedom after having walked through the many narrow alleys of the inner city.

Ordinary life continues here as if there are no tourists, though there are some taking the vaporetto to Murano. Venetians take the boat to the cemetery of San Michele. There is a petrol station for boats and the main hospital from where ambulance boats transport patients.

At the far eastern end you can turn right and left again to continue your walk along the lagoon all the way to the Arsenale, where the passage way is just a metal frame attached to the walls above the water.

This walkway is about 1 KM in length and comprises the northern limit of the island of Venice. Built in the 16th century and rebuilt in the late 1700’s after a storm. It affords a nice view of San Michele and the Venetian lagoon. It is also a vaporetto stop for boats heading to Murano/Burano and other outer islands.

The Fondamente Nove are the part of Venice that I love most. They are wonderful, unique, it's nice to stay there because they are a wonderful crossroads. It's the living Venice that tries to survive mass tourism. Every time I meet up with a friend who lives in another city (I live on the Lido which I love very much), I always try to convince them to come and see the Fondamente Nove, because I feel at home

Located in the north part of the city in cannareigo, it is the first glimpse of the city when crossing the northern part of the lagoon by water taxi. This long walkway faces the northern lagoon and the cemetery island of San Michele.

At the beginning is a large waterbus stop, then a great restaurant called Algiobagio with a large outdoor terrace overhanding into the lagoon. Further along ou will see the large glimming white hospital with the heli pad on the top. There are lots of very old /unloved buidlings, two minor canals and several bridges.

would be a good walk on a nice day.

We enjoyed our walk along here. It is flat and easy to walk on (or with a pushchair). The views are spectacular across the northern lagoon. There are plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the view - and some of these were nice and shady.

If you are planning to visit the islands of Murano, Burano, Torcello, etc., one of the best places to go to get the boats to those islands is Fondamenta Nove. A friend told me that one of the best brasseries in Venice (i.e., meaty-heavy restaurants) is there as well, although we did not have a chance to visit that.

You go to Fondamente Nove to take the Vaporetto to Murano or Burano but also for the Venetians who go to the cemetery on the island of San Michele.
From here you can enjoy a beautiful view,
