I am pretty sure you will see this if you come to Venice. It is the gorgeous blue and gold clock tower on the San Marco Square, next to the Basilica de San Marco. Be sure to take more than a moment, to admire this beautiful clock!

The Amazing Clock Tower is also UNESCO's World Heritage Site. The dial of the ' clock is gold and blue enamel; marks hour, day, moon phases and zodiac. It is in Piazza di San Marco where the Amazing Basilica, the Strong Bell Tower and the Famous Doge's Palace are also located.

A beautiful building with the Sundial and Venetian Lion on it, well worth waiting for the clock to chime while visiting St Marks Square.

Embedded into the magnificent block of the Procurate Vecchie the torre dell´ Orologio (Clock Tower) dominates the entrance to Venice´s St. Marks`s Square. Dating back to the 15th century this building is one of the city`s most famous architectural attractions. Standing nearby you can even see the the winged lion on top of the tower (the symbol of Venice) but... More

If one likes architecture, this must be seen. I like the colors on the time piece. All the details are perfect. It is free. And once you have reached, must take photos.

Passed by and looked at the tower with the lion and sundial while on tour in St. Mark's Square in May 2012. Near the cathedral and Doges palace. Very busy area and there was a line here that was quite large.

Time is running, even for tourists, visiting Venice. If you are lucky wait near the tower at noon to hear and see two figures, ringing a bell with their hammers. They are dark bronze figures and Venetians call them I Mori. Tower also has a huge stone lion and some other decorations on the clock. Tower is popular meeting spot... More

This clock tower is located close to the Basilica di San Marco in the Piazza of the same name. Looks pretty good in photos and has been well preserved. I didn't go inside but admired it from the main square.

Interesting, nice view over the square. You can watch the watch system and take pictures. We had nice sunny weather. View on the rooftops of Venice.

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
