To reach San Maria Salute, we took the waterbus via the Giadecca canal and landed on Ziltere stop. The walk towards Santa Maria Salute took us through some quiet and picturesque canals. And nearby to Santa Maria Salute, at the tip, you can take a good photo of San Giorgio Maggiore.

I have been in Venice several times, but this was the first time to visit this basilica. It is quite impresive from outside, but also inside is nice to see. Very bright, colourful stone floor. In the late afternoon, sun rays come directly through the windows and it looks especially nice.

Beautiful building, with marble columns, a good place to view St Marks across the water of the Grand Canal, and an easy access to the "other " canal

I painted this church a long time ago, and I had a sneaky suspicion that it was better out than in. So, when I had the opportunity, I planned to "give the lie" to my suspicions. Sadly, I was right. The Santa Maria is far more impressive on the outside than in. The perfect proportions, the pear shaped duomo, the... More

Do visit this big church. If you can, take tehe vaporetto as it is on the other side of the Canal and not so close from Accademia bridge. There is a sign at the entrance informing visitors that the entrance is free and nobody is entitled to charge you for visiting. A honest and clear position, something which is not... More

Festooned like a Christmas cake, but amazingly beautiful statues. Inside lush paintings and huge dome.

It feels smaller inside than it appears from the outside of the building, especially from the Grand Canal. Doesn't seem to be used as a church. But the atmosphere is genuine Venice!!

Make sure you see this church! It is a fun walk there and the church is absolutely beautiful! Under construction while we were there but we were able to get inside and look at the areas that were not curtained off. This church is so impressive. We sat outside on the steps watching the boats go by as well.
