DiscoveringVenice is run by Antonella, Eugenia and Federica. We are Registered Tourist Guides since 2000. We offer a wide range of private tours. We also offer semi-private tours: a perfect way to share costs with other travellers like you. The private tours we organize can be either on foot or by private boat (Gran Canal, small canals, islands of the lagoon - Murano, Burano, Torcello). We are keen to organize customized exclusive tours to make you discover the "hidden Venice" and its back-streets, as well as the monumental classic Venice.

We booked a 2 hours walking tour and 1 hour private boat ride with Antonella for our first day in Venice. The tour is not cheap but is a great familiarisation to Venice with a local (ours was born and bred Venetian). If you are happy to spend time researching and walking around with a map and book then you... More

We enjoyed a walking tour with Federica of Discovering Venice on a previous visit to this glorious city and decided to book another when we visited again in October. This time we met Antonella and we requested a tour of a different neighbourhood- this time, the Dorsoduro. It was excellent and we learned facts and saw sights we would have... More

Patrizia Bracceschi was our tour guide and she did a wonderful job. She was very knowledgeable about the sights we saw, the history of Venice, and the colorful stories including those about Casanova. It was nice not having to wait in line to enter sites such as Doge Palace and the Basilica. Pat was very courteous and friendly. I can... More

On our recent trip to Venice we arranged for three private tours for 6 people (ranging in ages from 11 to 66), with Federica and they were all wonderful. We did two walking tours and one boat tour. We all agreed that the tours made the trip so much richer. Federica not only covered all the highlights, but showed us... More

My husband and I booked a walking tour earlier this month and were lucky to meet up with Federica, who we had all to ourselves. Federica was friendly and warm and very happy to share with us her love of her own city. She is so knowledgable - we talked a lot about Venice today as well as its history... More

We were so happy to have this tour. We had a private tour for our family of 4 (children ages 11 and 12). Federica was friendly and an absolute wealth of knowledge. Her enjoyment of Venice and its history is clear throughout the tour and not only did we learn tons about Venice, the Dodge's palace and the Duomo, she... More

I originally thought that the price of this tour was relatively high but given that we booked our trip rather spontaneously and that we only had a day, I went ahead and booked this tour. When we met Antonella we could immediately see her enthusiasm and love for the city ... she was incredibly knowledgeable and presented the city in... More

Our tour with Frederica Fresch was the highlight of our 16 days in Europe! She is such a delight, and so knowledgable! Perfect English. We were with her for 5 hours and worth every penny. My mom requires a walker and is elderly, and Frederica worked out accommodations and got us into places we never could have done with my... More

My wife and I, along with two other couples, recently spent three unforgettable days in Venice as part of a two-week trip to Italy celebrating our 25th anniversary. I had contacted DiscoveringVenice Tours only a few weeks before we arrived and was lucky enough to book Patrizia Bracceschi for a 4 hour private tour on our first day. My wife... More

Federica is a wonderful warm human being who knows Venice like the back of her hand. Anyone who really wants to understand the history of Venice, its architecture and where to go should give her a call. To cap of a wonderful morning she lead us to a hidden gem of a restaurant which we would never have found. That... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
