We went up the tower and the view over Venice is spectacular. Across to St Marks Square and also in all other directions too, worth the small fee to get the lift up there.

Without doubt, my favourite place in Venice, peaceful and beautiful after the bustle - plus the best Venice views from the tower, without queues and with elevator! Also regularly hosts quality art - currently a great retrospective on Cuban Michaelango Pistoletto, better than anything I...More

This island is an oasis of calm amidst the rivers of tourists flooding other parts of Venezia. You feel it the second you alight from the vaporetto. We enjoyed a quiet walk around the island, and the distant silent views of the Palazzo Ducale. There's...More

We took the boat from San Zaccaria (return tickets cost €10 per adult) and it took around 3-4 minutes to get to the island When we arrived we wandered around before heading into the church which had some kind of art exhibition (a lot of...More

The view is very unexpected. It's very beautiful. And you don't have to be exhausted to climb as there is a lift.

Get away from the heaving masses by taking the vaporetto to the island. The church itself is a large basilica that appears quite cold, but take the lift (quite expensive) to the viewpoint in the belfry. Beware of the bell clanging next to you every...More

Caught the no. 2 vaporetto from San Zaccaria just east of San Marco. Paid E6 & went straight up the bell tower. 360 degree views, with San Marco area looking fabulous. Bells rang for 11o'clock & I almost lost my skin! Beautiful views of the...More

The tower of San Giorgio Maggiore is easily reachable from San Marco. It is the first stop on the vaporetto line 2 (stop is called San Giorgio). There were no lines, we walked straight in, bought a ticket and went up in the lift. Beautiful...More

San Giorgio Maggiore, designed by Palladio in around 1566. is (surely) one of the world's classic architectural sites when viewed across the water from St Mark's Square. It's well worth getting off the vaporetto to have a closer look. The inside, largely marble, is dazzling...More

Didn't think this was worth the money for the water taxi. Peaceful and decent enough however if you are looking for churches with more than just a view, then there are others in venice

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
Do I need to purchase two vaporetto tickets to visit San Giorgio? (One to get there from San Zacharia and a different one to get back?). Or can I use the same ticket to return if still within the ticket's time limit? I do not wish to buy a day pass. Thank you

We always buy a vaporetto ticket for the week we are staying in Venice so I am not sure about the ruling on two separate trips. I my view it is probably just as cheap to buy a day ticket and you would be able to hop on and... More

We have always visited in November and December so difficult to say but as others have said both would be ideal. From a photographic point of view the early sunrise is particularly good from the San Marco side looking toward... More
