It's 100% worth hopping on the vaporetto over to this little island in the lagoon. It's only a short ride away, but it gives you an amazing perspective on the city of Venice, especially if you go up the church bell tower (there's a lift!). Here you truly get a sense of the incredible feat the Venetians undertook building a... More

Take the vaparreto across to San Giorgio Maggiore. Take the elevator to the bell tower to see some amazing views of Venice including the Doges palace and San Marco .

It was especially cold the day we braved the trio over so didn't do much exploring save the church and the bell tower. The view from the top is worth the trip in itself though

Take the vaporetto across the bacino to San Giorgio Maggiore and see Venice from a whole new perspective. Take the elevator up to the top of the bell tower (6 Euro) for the most amazing views of the whole of Venice spread out before you. Panoramic. Spectacular. Beautiful. And don't miss the simplicity and beauty of the church - sit... More

Breath-taking! You will enjoy a magnificent view of Venice and the surrounding lagoon and minor islands. If possible I strongly suggest you to visit in the afternoon of a sunny day. Ticket: 6 euro / person

The view from the tower is impressive and perhaps the best in Venice. There is a lift and entrance is 6 Euro. The church itself is amazing from the outside however, as Ruskin describes, the interior disappoints, mainly because of the blandness of every wall. This is softened somewhat by the numerous paintings however, for me, it just didn't cut... More

A bit of a hidden gem of Venice and often overlooked, but a must-see on your visit. We didn't have time to up to the top but will return next time we're in Venice to do so. What we did see in the church was beautiful. Meaningful paintings and beautiful architecture. Take the water boat over but make sure to... More

We did not go here on our first visit to Venice, but fortunately we did this time--it was awesome. While San Marco is overrun, this place is beautiful, calm, and provides a perspective you cannot get from anywhere else. The view from the bell tower is breathtaking, but take the time to look at the church as well. It's literally... More

The view from the island back on Venice is worth the short trip across. The campanile provide a magnificent view and is a lot less busy that the one on San Marco. Best to go mid to late afternoon as the sun drops down as it provides beautiful colours for pictures...

We took the vaporetto from Dorsoduro to San Giorgio Maggiore on a beautiful sunny day. The ride over was gorgeous with lovely views of San Marco. Then we got to the island and saw even more breathtaking views from the bell tower. It is well worth the fee if you love taking great photos or having a romantic moment looking... More
