We were fortunate to have a clear day in an otherwise overcast week during our visit to Venice and took the opportunity to pop across to the monastery and tower. The view from the top of the tower is absolutely stunning and the bonus is that there is an elevator :)

A short trip across from San Mark's, this island houses the lovely San Giorgio Maggiore church and a bell tower that affords one marvellous views of Venice. A much less crowded way to enjoy the beauty of Venice from above.

Cheaper than the campinale in S. Marco, and much less busy, this gives great views of the lagoon. You will need to get across probably by vaporetto but if you have a day pass for that, it's well worth the time and trouble.

We were lucky to enjoy the view of Venice from the top of the bell tower on a clear and sunny October day. There was no queue for the elevator and you could view from all 4 sides of the tower. We arrived a little before noon and got the experience of the bells chiming which was an added unplanned... More

Great views, and there are no queues to go up the church! However, be aware that bell rings every half an hour, so try to go up after it stops ringing to have 30 minutes of silence and great views!

Take a boat trip across to see the view from this bell tower - it can't be missed off your itinerary. Time your trip so the bells don't chime when you are up there! Afterwards we had a coffee round the corner by the 'marina' while we waited for the return boat.

Little boat trip, little walk and history opened up , I loved it. It had so much to tell that you could feel the history.

Take the lift up to the top of the bell tower for the most incredible views from the top - not only of Venice, but the lagoon and islands beyond - plus the gorgeous garden (below) that belongs to the monastery (I think). Also see inside an amazing installation 'Together' by Jaume Plensa.
