The most undecorated catholic church I know

A beautiful church, mainly undecorated. I love the combination of wood and marble. And the campanile (€ 7.00) has the same hight as the one on St. Marcus.

The views from the bell tower are great, particularly when a huge ocean is tugged past. Costs 6 euro to get the lift up. No alternative. Kids free. There were a number of free exhibitions on the island when we visited but we didn't have the time to visit them. A pity. The one cafe on the island - which... More

A beautiful church and a lovely island. It is located opposite the Doge's Palace in Venice. Visit the bell tower of San Giorgio Maggiore and take lovely photos of Venice.

It's fantastic. Very nice place and you have to go there if you are in Venice. Nice statues and a great experience.

The church is of impressive proportions, but a rather sparse interior. However, the views from the bell tower make it a "must do". To make it even better, the bell tower has a lift - well worth the 6 euros charge. The 360 degree views are magnificent, particularly of St Mark's, which is directly opposite. We were fortunate that there... More

In the church (free to enter) I was overwhelmed by a complete sense of calm which washed over me and being non-religious I found this interesting and unique. Wonderful atmosphere created by gentle chant music in the background. The church is currently housing an art installation of a giant head and fingers raised in blessing (pictures added to demonstrate). Don't... More

I did visit Saint Giorgio thinking of the views I would have of Venice. Did go up the campanario (bell tower). Beautiful. The inside of the church itself is not really beautiful in my opinion and did have a modern sculpture exhibition inside; which I found a bit odd. This is a very short trip by Vaporetto; a few minutes... More

Visited Paris in September of 2012. This location in Venice is great for sightseeing. Great view surrounded by water, canoes, boats and St.Mark's Square right across the lakeview. Nice breeze in the summer time. Beware of thieves. Good luck!
