There are wonderful works by Veronese as well as other artists here. If you've been to the typical hotspots and are looking for something different, inexpensive and worthwhile, I highly recommend this. It's also worth going with someone who knows about art and history.

Lovely Church!!! You must stop here and look at the charming church, although considered a minor basilica, this is well worth the visit as on of Bellini's last painting of the Madonna is in one of the alcoves. Also over Easter period, there is a...More

We decided to look around the Basilica SS Giovanni e Paolo rather than fighting the crowds in the more modern Saint Marks Square. This is a beautiful church, steeped in history and in a great location. The queues were two hundred deep in the square,...More

The basilica is beautiful on the inside as well as the outside. We could have sat in the piazza and just marveled at the carvings on the exterior.

My husband and I walked to this church from our hotel. From San Marco's it would be no more than a 15 minute walk, if you don't get lost. The church is huge and very beautiful inside. There was a requested donation of 2 1/2...More

It's a lovely walk next to the canal; and totally worth it- both the church and the hospital buildings are impressive on the outside - the square itself is a nice place to catch your breath and just breathe it all in!

One of the largest churches in Venice, made all of brick. I loved the embelished wooden beams and the pattern made of bricks and plaster. The campo was not crowded and you can't miss the statue of Colleoni made by Verrocchio. The church is one...More

Because the Doges could not be buried in St. Mark's Basilica many of them are buried here. It is fascinating to see the monuments inside the church. It is also fascinating if you happen, as I did, to stumble upon a funeral in progress. Inside...More

Castello is the largest of the six sestieri

streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals
