This small island is a bit off the usual Venetian path, but it’s worth seeing. Its Santa Maria Assunta church houses impressive mosaics, its bell tower offers great surrounding views—and it’s home to Locanda Cipriani, a well-regarded restaurant and hotel that played host to writing legend Ernest Hemingway .

This island is no longer huge and well-occupied as it was centuries ago. Today you will find a few innkeepers, farmers, and other hardy souls live on the largely abandoned island. Torcello is still worth the visit as there is a magnificent Byzantine-Italian cathedral dating...More

We visited for the first time this year. This is one of the first Venetian islands populated, but is now one of the quieter areas. It is a short walk from the dock to the church - fee payable for entrance. There is also a museum...More

We spent a lovely time on the beautiful, peaceful island of Torcello. Had lunch in a splendid restaurant, went to Attila's chair and I climbed the church tower for spectacular views over the lagoon.

If you have time in Venice I would well recommend this place. From Venice it would take 40/50 mins on water bus (number 12) Spent 2-3 hours walking around the piazza and island, following a path around the bell tower. Entrance to the tower is...More

We wanted to see and visit different parts of Venice and not the busy parts in high season, so we bought a water bus day ticket and travelled to all the other islands near Venice. Tercello is nice but Burno is better

Take a Vaporetto trip across the lagoon to see where it all started , the original Venetians setlled here before the present day Venice was established. Lovely basilica.

As part of a "3 islands tour" (Murano, Burano and Torcello) this was our least favourite. It does have a few bars/restaurants, and is very quiet and peaceful, but the church is E5.00 to enter, and once you've seen St Marks everything else is not...More

If you want to get away from all the madness that is Venice visit Torcello! It's small but beautifully formed! There is a lovely hotel - Locanda Cipriani - that we will stay in at some stage. We tried this year but it was fully...More

Water bus number 12 usually runs from Fodemante Nove (Venice) to burano murano and torcello, each island is worth visiting.
