On a wet day we took a ferry then walked a long way to get to Santa Maria. It was high on our list since we had enjoyed our previous visit. When we finally arrived at the church two men were standing in the doorway...More

In the daytime from the outside the marble shimmers on this small but wonderful church. At night from the bar by the canal it takes on a blue hew made more serene by the lapping of water and the occasional gondola that floats by. On...More

A bit out of everyday tours, this magical church made by a very famous architect, is a precipus pearl in the heart of venice. The Lombardo signature is a dream for every lover of history of art or of architecture. A lot of british use...More

This church is interesting for those who want to have a closer look at the EARLY stage of the Renaissance in Venice. Other places would be: Scuola grande di San Marco (next to the SS. Giovanni e Paolo Church, not far from Miracoli), San Zaccaria...More

This is one of my favorite churches in Venice. Lovely marble on the outside, cupolas on top, right by a canal [and a little square with shops and restaurant] and the inside is gorgeous. Note especially the blue ceiling.

This small church, only a few minutes from the Rialto Bridge, and one of the 16 covered by the Venice Church Pass, is particularly simple, beautiful, and unusual. It was recommended to us by a local who was quite right in suggesting we would find...More

Just a little gem. A must see when having some time for visiting less popular spots in Venice. A small early renaissance building with an excellend marble exterior. Delicate, sort of fragile and really breathtaking.

Catch this church in the evening. Its marble exteriors are beautifully illuminated. Its interiors are exquisite, too. A "little"church, by Venetian standards, but beautifully crafted marble interiors!

My husband and I were lucky enough to pass this little church on our way back to our hotel after dinner one evening. We heard music and went inside to find a concert taking place. The performers were school children from England who were singing...More

This church hovers on that fine line between exquisite and over-the-top bling. Interesting and pretty in a fairy princess sort of way, but lacking some of the grandeur and/or humanity of some of Venice's (many) other churches.

Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district)
with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many
transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying
areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand
for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal
bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution,
2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli
Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby

Its quite a trek best to take a water taxi to the Rialto Bridge ask which way there and its about 15 minutes . It is down alleys so need to check if you are heading the right way. Well worth it though

Probably Rialto or Fondamente Nuove as good as any - it's about halfway between. But the easiest way to find it is from the Church of Ss Giovanni e Paolo; from the square in front of it, a bridge leads across the canal to... More
