There were no signs to say when this cathedral opens for visitors. It is an ok looking building from outside.

big, rather new, with little historic or artistic value, the Cathedral of Vicenza is not a must. but it's a nice setting around it.

On an early morning stroll around Vicenza my friend and I decided to look inside this Cathedral as it appeared to be open, and we were so pleased we did.

Whilst pretty impressive on the exterior, the inside of the building was just beautiful.

I have added a few photos to give you a flavour but if you are staying in or visiting Vicenza don't miss seeing this building. It's only a few minutes walk from the city centre and the Piazza dei Signori and well worth exploring.

Impelled by the beauty of this cathedral, we wanted to take a look inside. Since it was our first stay in Vicenza, we didn't know much about it, but we were lucky to come across an elderly lady who was very proud of it and more than happy to give us a few details of its history. What amazed us was the fact that there had been presence of a religious building at the spot since the first century. Its fate wasn't a very happy one, considering it had gone through a lot of destruction and construction, but it managed to survive all that, the last bombing attack being that during World War II by the United Statesian army, which destroyed the cupola that was designed by Palladio. Luckily, it regained its look again in 2002. The cathedral, adored by locals, also has a gate, "porta laterale", dedicated to Palladio.

The church is interesting to visit because of its huge size and importance for Vicenza. Although in Italy You can meet more decorated churches.

Nice Cathedral in the middle of Vicenza, overshadowed by all of the other architectural beauty, and I am sure due to it being reconstructed after the WWII bombings. Beautiful marble floors, a wonderful altar and some frescoes adorn this rather sedate cathedral. Very quiet during the week when we visited. Not many people, and very, very quiet.

Main chatedral in Vicenza it is very large, especially when you go inside and see whole space. From the outside is like any other church.

Compared with other cathedrals in Northern Italy, this is not very interesting. I think it was destroyed during the Second World War and then restored.

Very impressive gothic church from outside (a bit less from inside).

Boasts a crypt and archaeological remains.
