Cagliari's one-stop market not only for the freshest fish & seafood but also for bread, cheese & other dairy, meat, etc.

If our Alitalia flight from Rome landed on time) which it didn't - they aren't joking when they say ALITALIA stands for "Always Late In Take-off, Always Late In Attival) - we'd... read more

If our Alitalia flight from Rome landed on time) which it didn't - they aren't joking when they say ALITALIA stands for "Always Late In Take-off, Always Late In Attival) - we'd have about an hour before Cagliari's San Benedetto market closed for a long holiday weekend including the 360th edition of the Feast Of Sant'Efisio as well as the... I like visiting markets to see what the local people eat. This market made me want to live in Cagliari. The market is easy to find if you follow a map, and Cagliari is very well signposted (each street number also indicate the name of the street in most part). The market is the size of an entire block, so... More

If you come to this town and don't visit this place you'll miss the very important part of culture. This market is fantastic. Biggest fish market in Europe. Very clean and all the food is absolutely fresh. Oysters, mussels, cheese, ham, honey - you name it, it's going to blow your mind. A big plus is that now you can... More

Locals takes food seriously, smells, pinches and discuss quality. The range is local and you will not find much imported.Perhaps it can not compete with the best food market, but it should be borne in mind that Cagliari is not a large city.Missing, however, what one finds in Spain, France ... small eateries where you can be served a little goodies... A very large market, two stories with seafood at the lower floor. Was not easy to find and asked a lot of local people who did not even know. Later a man knew and responded that it was the best in Italy. Very crowded and lots of fresh vegetables, fruits, poultry and different varieties of seafood. Lots to see and... More

Having lived in France for 20 years I have visited many markets. This one beats them all hands down for meat, fish and fruit / veg. What it lacks is the atmosphere of cafes, and locals meeting for a catch up. Go if you want a truly fantastic shopping experience, give it a miss if you are hoping to get... More

During our stay in Muravera we visited the capital Cagliari. Perfect working attraction is Mercato San Benedetto. Many shops with meat, cheese, wine and sweets on the top floor and a typical fish market on the ground floor. We tasted as fresh oysters with lemon - a delicacy! Salespersons are smiled, sing, shout, they offer goods with a smile. Be... More

You definitely need a gps to find the building. It was a very interesting market. The fish floor was a but dirty with water on the floor and random fish thrown in boxes against the wall. The people were very friendly. The best part was actually across the street. There's a little bakery that sells home made pasta and baked... More
