Walking around when we came up to the Cattedrale di Santa Maria, we decided to go inside. We found it to be as nice and beautiful from the inside as it is outside. It was peaceful and very calming. Well worth a visit.

Wonderful cathedral, rather small inside. The crypt is quite impressive. Explanations in English, too.

In a magnificent spectacle of a cathedral, the real glory is waiting below the stairs. Under the altar - glimpsed at first through tiny dark windows - lurks a fabulous marble crypt. It is inspiring, cool in every sense, and so, so beautiful. Well worth the descent. The stairs are just to the right as you face the altar.

In the heart of Cagliari located in the ancient Castle area this church is a perl. In the basement you will find fantastic rooms nicely decorated in blue and turquoise. It is fantastic to go there also to escape from the heat outside during summertime. This area is one of the most beautiful of Cagliari. Do not miss the little... More

Gorgeous from the outside. Know ahead of time the hours. Though it was posted that there were no closing times, it was closed the time I arrived at 3 pm. Sad because there were people that came from all over Europe to see.

This cathedral was built in the thirteenth century but it has undergone numerous renovations over the years. It is beautiful inside with many lovely works of art throughout. Under the presbytery, there is a very interesting crypt (a small donation is requested to enter...well worth it). In the crypt there are some remarkable statues as well as 179 niches containing... Located in the Piazza Palazzo, this Roman Catholic cathedral was begun in the 12th century, and was later renovated in the 17th and 18th centuries along Baroque lines. Then in the 1930s, it received its neo-Romansque facade. The "rich icing" of its Baroque decor is stunning. One of its most memorable features is the oversized marble pulpit, sculpted in the... Found my way from the port bus stop to the cathedral. It's my reference point in Catholic Europe. Pretty facade with the marble. Ornate too inside but I prefer exterior architecture of Italy. The interior ceiling domes had pretty frescoes, but my camera wasn't set correctly.

The cathedral has a stunningly ornate interior that is well worth a visit. We went on an organised tour so I would check access times. About 30 to 40 minutes should suffice.
