Another great part of Cagliari. There are small streets for strolling, places with great views. Shops and restaurants to enjoy. Don't miss this part of the city.

The Castello district is the oldest part of the city, on the hill, and the most interesting part of Cagliari.
Not to be missed if you visit Cagliari.
Narrow streets and old buildings. There is access up the steps at the Saint Remy bastion, or via a lift - there is one from behind Piazza Jenne, and another by the gardens along Viale Regina Elena.

The Quartiere Castello is by far the most interesting part of Cagliari and should not be missed ! Accessed by several flights of steps from Piazza Costituzione it incorporates, amongst others, the Bastione St. Remy, Palazzo Regio, cathedral of Santa Maria, Torri di Elefante and San Pancrazio. The whole area consists of narrow cobbled streets and open squares and has several bars, restaurants and gelaterie. It is great for simply walking round but many of the buildings are well worth visiting especially the Palazzo Regio and the Cathedral with it's amazing crypt. There are lifts for those who don't want to climb the stairs to the Bastione but, when we were there, they were not in operation ! Car parking is available nearby at the multi-storey car park on Viale Regina Elena.

One of the best places in the city to explore, with narrow streets and picturesque, old houses. Plenty of cafes and restaurants to rest.

The best place to start your trip to getting known Cagliari is the Castello quarter, both because its hilltop position and thus the view but also due to its historic importance. The Cathedral, palaces, Elephant tower (can be climbed up) and the St Remy bastion (currently under reconstruction) being the most interesting sites. But the best is to just stroll around with your head up not to miss the beautiful decorations, chandeliers and bright colors of the buildings. Then head down to Marina .
