We visited the Alcantara Gorge as part of a tour with Etna Tribe. We entered the gorge via a number of steps for €1.50. Yes, the gorge is beautiful and if we hadn’t just come from Alcantara River near Francavilla, the gorge may have received 5/5. However that score goes to the beautiful river and the walk we had to... Alcantara river made beautiful gorge in the lava layer. The water has cold, but in the summer it is very fine to drop yourself with the river flow and enjoying the walls..

The gorge was fantastic. Wear shorts and take a towel and beach shoes. Once you are down there you will want to paddle in the water and go in quite deep to see the stunning formations. Following Google Maps and brown signs we easily found the car park. The way in is clearly signed and there is a ticket booth.... More

You can arrive independently by bus from the Taormina region, or join a tour group. Some people book to walk through the gorge in waders and boots, we just wanted to have a look. If you are 'fit' then don't pay the 8 euro's to go down in the elevator, walk another 200metres or so and you can pay 1.50... More

Well worth the short walk down the hillside you can take a lift down and pay if you are disabled. Stunningly unusual gorge formation, they don't rent waders along the way for no reason. The water is so so cold you have to either wade or swim to get the best views of the gorge. Be prepared either have bathers... More

Visited here with our tour company, it didn't disappoint, the gorge I should imagine gets rather busy as the day progresses, we went quite early in the morning, There is a lift that takes you down to the gorge, ( for a fee ) and it was worth it. The water is crystal clear and ice cold, the rock formations... More

Like most 'attractions' in Sicily this is a bit scrappy in its presentation and a little dubious in its visitor safety features. We paid €11 entry, ( gorge and botanical garden) after the ticket booth there are four elevators ( two out of action) these deposit you at the foot of the gorge, about fifty metres below. There is a... More

Finally we have seen this today. And even after high expectations we were positively surprised. If you pay the 10 euro please don't forget to visit the parc next to it (included in the price). When you buy the 1.50 euro tickets you can only purchase them on the main road just before you go to the stairs. Not in... More

I´ve seen many gorges, but nothing like this. The place is beautiful and very photogenic. We went with a guide who first took us to the upper part of Alcantara (see pictures), which is nice and free and then to the lower parts, which is bigger and you can walk inside the gorge. For me this was a top experience... More
