Wonderful experience in this ghost town, abandoned aftern an eartquake is 1968 and now visitable thanks to an organization (look for Poggio Reale Antica on Fb) which is working to maintain it and avoid further distruction. You really feel the time has stopped.

This is the place to be for urban explorers. It's like your stepping inside a time capsule. You can actually imagine what life was like in that town in the sixties. We walked around for hours, took hundreds of pictures and still we hadn't seen...More

An amazing visit to a ghost town abandoned after an earthquake in the 1960's. It's both sad and beautiful at the same time and for a photographer - it was amazing!

Easy to find, easy to bypass the closed city gate. Few if any other visitors. Surprisingly little litter. Genuine experience, not to be missed.

We love abandoned places so when we came across Poggioreale while doing some research on Sicily in preparation for our trip, we knew we had to go there. It was an easy car ride to the town. It's eerie to see it on top de...More

Had read about Poggioreale on TripAdvisor and as part of our biking tour. We tried to find by bike, but too difficult and too hard to climb. So we returned by car afterwards. The place has two main entrances. On both sides the streets are...More
