This is the heart of the city and a great and impressive model of baroque art. The Duomo is impressive and the lava elephant statue a landmark of the city. Behind the fountain in the piazza, do not miss the fish market.

An extremely interesting piazza with lots to see and savour, city gate, cathedral, elephant monument etc. Proceed from here to Via Etna for a good view of Sicilian street life. Lots f of reasonably priced cafes which are really to good to sit at and watch the world go by.

Ideal place to sit with coffee and drinks to watch the life of Catania pass by. Drinks relatively cheap. Near the fish market which is an experience in itself.

The Roman baths below are part of the Museum beside. Some of the walls are dark lava. You can get in with the Catania pass.

Well, it's the central 'piazza' in the city, and it is really beautiful. Quite a few legends are connected with it, and the locals will definitely tell you all of them. Catania is pretty different from a typical Italian city as tourists usually imagine it - it's actually a 'real' city with real people living there, not a 'souvenir' type... More
