La piazza è dedicata ai fratelli Cairoli, eroi del Risorgimento Italiano.
E’ un grande area alberata, divisa in due dai binari del tram, dove confluiscono le due vie principali di Messina: Via Garibaldi e Viale S. Martino.
E’ la piazza più frequentata dai messinesi per la presenza di tanti negozi e bar che la rendono un posto ideale per una breve sosta dopo lo shopping o semplicemente, come faccio io, per incontrare amici e, nel frattempo, deliziarci con un gelato o un cannolo di ricotta nel Bar Santoro e nel Bar Irrera oppure dissetarsi con una limonata in estate (due limoni spremuti in un bicchiere lungo e stretto, aggiungendo acqua seltz fredda fino a raggiungere l’orlo ed un pizzico di sale; mescolare con un cucchiaio prima di berla) presso lo storico chiosco della fine del XIX secolo.

La piazza alberata

Piazza Cairoli è forse la più importante piazza di Messina, al centro delle vie dello shopping e caratterizzata dalla presenza di alberi e dalla struttura per l'omonima fermata del tram. Su di essa si affacciano diversi esercizi commerciali storici, tra cui il famoso chiosco ottocentesco.
