I was attracted to the Museo Regionale by its two Caravaggio masterpieces, but was delighted to find so much more. The Museo is largely a repository for sculpture, paintings & architectural fragments that originally had been in churches destroyed in the catastrophic earthquake/tsunami of 1908...More

We used the local tram to visit the museum, there are some beautiful paintings but the masterpiece has to be the Caravaggio, simply stunning and a must see.

This was a few of the best spent hours in Messina for us. Don't let the fence intimidate you the entrance is on the west end. This museum has some important works by Antonello da Messina and Michelangelo Mersi da Caravaggio.

Give yourself a couple of hours so you have time to view the art from the entire 2700 years of Messina's history. The museum location and the grounds and the staff are fabulous. Besides the amazing wall-size Caravaggios, the statue of Neptune is impressive. Also,...More

We were worried that the museum was closed, the towering fence has a lot of locked gates and the grounds appeared deserted, finally found the entrance, and were the only visitors for two or three hours on an April afternoon. No where else can you...More

Walk along the waterfront to the destination, a modestly presented museum that explodes with Renaissance and Baroque marvels. So much more than the two Caravaggio's, but then again they are the stars of the show- understandably and rightly so. Their presentation is a testament to...More

We've driven through Messina several times, always on the way to another destination. this visit was no different, except that we'd set aside a couple of hours to visit the museum. Our intention was to see the two paintings by Caravaggio there, and we were...More

As part of the exhibit called "Le Vie dei Tesori", we had the privilege to visit this museum and the ruins that surround it, with two passionate high school students that chaperoned us. The museum hosts two Caravaggios and two Antonello da Messinas and a...More

Most people going to Messina are just passing through, I went to see the two Caravaggios in the Museo Regionale. It was worth the Trip

This is a gem of a museum which is almost deserted. It is 2 miles north of the harbour area of Messina and I suspect not many venture out. The art is fascinating as most has been through earthquakes and war to survive to hang...More

It was closed! So 2000 or so Cunard passengers were not able to enjoy the culture of Messina - perhaps someone should have told them?

The Regional Museum is easy to access via the tram (last stop). The museum contains very few pieces of art and the museum staff are not friendly or helpful in any way. I was the only patron in the museum and I was followed around...More
