Attached to the church stands a slender quadrangular building with well-squared blocks: the 12th century civic tower is part of the old system communication; built by the University of Palermo to defend the “Cassaro Walls", it was not part of the structures of the church and as you can see was released and isolated.

Not only the view from the tower is great, Torre di San Nicolo' is also cheap (only 2 or 3 euros) and even if it was closed, the guy who also works as tour guide opened the tower only for us to visit it, despite being closed (its open on saturdays only).

If you wish to see the wonderful Palermo from a top, you for sure have to visit this tower or the tower of the church of ss. Salvatore. From this tower you can see Palermo in 360°, observing from the sea to the multiples churches, famous market, palaces and the cathedral. Some of the guide are very good in explaining... More

A bit of a walk up the stairs but well worth the effort to see a a more positive perspective of Palermo. The history of the tower is interesting but you come for the view and the breeze.

Many steps in cramps quarters, but very much worth the exercise for the 360 degree view of Palermo. A very picture worthy experience!

After an adventurous day (trip to Segesta by public transport, walked the Greek ruins then had to hitched back to Alcamo just in time for our train back to Palermo), we were already hot and dirty but worked out the map to find San Nicolo. Climbed the tower for a fantastic view of Palermo - roof tops, domes, looking down... More

A late addition to the building, this tower was designed to be part of the communication network of bells to help alert the city's denizens to defensive requirements. It is well worth the climb to observe magnificent Palermo from an excellent viewpoint. Set the camera to panoramic and enjoy!

We had a friendly guide and climbing to the top of this small tower was a fine way of enjoying a good view of this beautiful city.
