- sandro712Naples, Italy877 contributionsBaroque...without latch! The church of GesĂą, better known as "Casa Professa", is located in the historic center and precisely in the "Albergaia" area. Among these naves, one can see one of the rare cases in which the Baroque did not totally suffocate the primitive layout of the church in its flourishes and among its "vrenzole" floral spirals. The frescoes and stuccoes abound but are not overwhelming, but are arranged in a truly enjoyable way. The colors are very beautiful, playing a lot on the strong contrasts between the white of the marble and stucco, against the very warm colors of the floors; whose colored shapes draw beautiful geometries. Also not to be missed are the stained glass windows which make the interior of the Church even more mystical. It seems to me that entry is totally free, obviously... be a tourist away from function times!Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten February 14, 2024
- Io viaggio low cost 365Italy14,520 contributionsThere is a bit of church in this baroqueBehind a very normal facade, as soon as you cross the threshold, this church will hit you like a slap so hard that it will leave you dumbfounded. There is no corner that is not richly decorated and walking inside discovering all the details and wonders from various angles is a real gift. As I had already noticed the previous time, I don't find the flow of visitors inside that I would have expected and perhaps for this reason the visit is even more pleasant. Strange to say in Palermo but access to this church is free. Unmissable visit! ivlc365Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 10, 2024

- clarit92Sciacca, Italy287 contributionsWow!One of the most beautiful churches ever seen! I absolutely recommend visiting it. It is a continuous amazement, at every corner there is something to marvel at. Entrance is free, while the visit to the museum is subject to a fee. From the outside you don't understand how beautiful it is inside. Go there!Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten April 8, 2024
- Ana VEugene, Oregon653 contributionsThe most beautiful baroque church in Palermo!Pictures do not do this church justice. This is the most beautiful baroque church in Palermo. Purchase a ticket to see ALL areas available. You will be happy you did. It is a stunning church. You could stare at the altar, walls, and chapels for hours. There is a huge wood paneled room behind the alter that holds the priest's liturgical vestments, which is a work of art. There are other rooms too you can visit that display church items and conservation work. The staff is very helpful and love to answer questions.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten April 8, 2024
- Sally62Northampton, United Kingdom6,083 contributionsStunning interior decorationA stunning baroque church - the first church built by the Jesuits in Sicily. The plain frontage is in complete contrast to the highly decorative interior which is covered in marble inlay and stuccoes by Giacomo Serpotta. Entrance to the church is free but you have to pay to visit the museum and crypt. Definitely not to be missed.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten June 19, 2024
- Mauressa32 contributionsWonderful.I stayed in Palermo for several days, near this church, which from the outside looked like a church like many others. By chance I was suggested to go and see it because it is considered perhaps the most baroque in Sicily. I walked in and... I just lost my breath. Absolutely wonderful, I was told that some people cried inside from the emotion. It is an extraordinary immersion in marble, polychromes, shapes, something indescribable but above all unmissableVisited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten July 4, 2024

The interior is covered with an exuberant decoration of mixed and mixed marbles with inlays and reliefs and imposing marble groups. The construction required over 200 years of work using white Carrara marble, grey from Belgium and coloured from Trapani.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten August 15, 2024

Its sumptuous shapes and wonderful dome make this church a true architectural jewel whose art blends with the spirit. The very important dimension, and the decorations of the frescoes, make it a set of true baroque testimony. Sublime!!Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten September 1, 2024

Palermo is full of churches, competing with beauty. The Chiesa del Gesu di Casa Professa is one of the must visits, from my point of view.
Indeed, as other opinions have pointed out, it is the interior of this church that attracts all the attention. A little away from the monuments of the center-on the way to the Ballaro market- I highly recommend you to take the time to visit this pure splendor of the Palermo Baroque, masterpiece of the artist Serpotta ... at the base Jesuit church ... and for the modest sum of 2.00 EUR to date! Allow half an hour to an hour to browse - quietly - the various chapels and admire the profusion of decorations and sculptures.

From the outside it looks like a normal baroque church, but when you enter you find yourself in a marvel of breathtaking stuccoes and frescoes
Paying a few euros we had a visit with a very good and knowledgeable guide.
We also had the opportunity to witness the restoration of a period painting carried out by a very knowledgeable restorer who was willing to explain her meticulous work in detail!

Chiesa del Gesu Di Casa Profesa is one of churches of Palermo, the main city in Sicily Island. It was built in the 17th Century in a Barroque-style. Really, the main nave is very well decorated, especially the columns, which are awesome! Also, we decided to buy the ticket museum, with which you can see some other parts of the church like the presbytery and the crypt. Wonderful church, which has a facade totally normal, but the inner part is impressive.

This is a must, it is a spectacular church, and the guided tour is totally worth it. It truly is a 'wow' experience. The architecture, the material used to make the artwork, the workmanship, the history that surrounds the church definitely makes this church a must visit

I visited this beautiful church yesterday morning. The visit was accompanied by a delightful guide, Alessandro, who shared with us his passion for art and beautiful things in a passionate way. Beautiful experience. I recommend it to everyone. Also recommended visit to the cloister pastry shop: 10 and praise!

Chiesa Del Gesu is an exceptionally beautiful church. It was built sometime in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. The outside of the building is nothing like the inside. It looks like a normal church from the street, but as soon as you enter you are transported into another, completely different world. The decoration of this place is nothing short of extraordinary. It is astounding. There is no space inside that has not been covered in some sort of painting or mosaic or sculpture or something! This has to be seen to be truly appreciated.

The Sicilian Baroque in all its glory. Multicolored marbles make the temple a unique place. We made the complete visit, with a young guide in Spanish, who showed us all lis corners of this beautiful Jesuit church. In the museum there are amazing textiles.

Chiesa del GesĂą di Casa Professa is a beautiful baroque church in Palermo. The exquisitely decorated interior is absolutely stunning being almost entirely white marble. The ceilings are decorated with beautiful paintings of biblical scenes; the columns and arches of white marble carved and painted over almost every square inch; the high alter consists of sculpted marble and statuary from floor to ceiling; the floors are polished marble and more mosaics.

Stunning church symbol of Sicilian Baroque.
A must visit if you are in Palermo, the beauty of the Church in the simplicity of its facade and the richness of its mixed polychrome marbles inside is unique.
The environment is not appreciated by everyone but we must stop and try to understand the work that went into building this church.
I found the frescoes on the ceiling and others scattered around the chapels with too bright and almost phosphorescent colors out of place but I read that they are a work from 1943 and therefore not as recent as I thought.
It's a shame about the context in which this church is located, the deterioration of the roads to reach it and the dirt.
My hope is that one day someone will actually do something to revive this wonderful city.

A church that is barely noticeable from the outside, in a side street that is not exactly the usual tourist route. But once you go inside, you are overwhelmed by the splendor of the marble work. Simply beautiful - you wonder whether anyone can still build something with such craftsmanship these days.
The many marble reliefs, which are truly a work of art in themselves, the sculptures, the frescoes on the walls and ceilings were a real highlight for us. So you should really visit this church, because it stands out significantly from other churches.
As always, this review is our purely subjective opinion and may differ from the opinions of other guests.

The opening hours are:
Monday until Saturday from 7.00 to 18.30.
Sunday from 6.30 to 13.00 and from 18.00 to 19.45.
The Museum opens at 9.30 am and closes at 5 pm or an hour before weddings. Sunday is closed.
I found this at the church's website - casaprofessa
You can read more about the church there. It's an incredible place. Plan on spending a lot of time there. The level of detail and the workmanship are mind-blowing, perhaps the best I have seen and I have seen a lot of churches at this point.
One bit of advice. Always get hours open from official websites. Others are frequently wrong. Sometimes even the official one is. Even better is to call and verify, if you have the time.
Have a great trip.

There is a side chapel to the right of the main altar. It has a white marble bas relief over its altar and a painting on the left wall of a young man standing on a platform. Does anyone know to whom this chapel is dedicated and/or the subject of the painting, the artist, etc.?
