Very nice nature reserve that is still pretty off the beaten track. Not too busy. As opposed to many of the other reviews I did not find it hard to find - we took the Sortino entrance and Google maps was accurate enough (and there are quite some signs as well). Based on the Rother hiking travel guide we made... More

Again take good hiking shoes, plenty of water and picnic. Come here in low season, otherwise will be too crowded, You will also need an (off) line google maps with GPS, not easy to find the entry. From reading material before coming here we had high expectations. Once on site, we were disappointed. AS UNESCO place we expected more information,... More

Although this site is rather off the beaten track, it is definitely worth a visit. We visited it from Siracusa, though it is probably nearer the wonderful Palazzolo Acreide, and we did have some difficulty finding it. That said, it is signposted from Sortino. The site is large, with some tricky walking to get to the palace, some three and... More

Before our visit to Sicily (with my wife) I have done a detailed web search of places to visit and read couple of books and despite that I did not find anything about Pantalica (but maybe its my fault). Only by chance we found the place and we were very glad. The place is unique and unforgettable. You walk among... More

Rock tombs cut into a beautifully scenic gorge. Take water as it is a hot trek from the car park. We were there three hours and only scratched the surface

The tombs are located in a park, which can be accessed from two sides (free entrance). The hike is going through some rough terrain (no real paths, at least they are quite "irregular"). The scenery is beautiful, and the graves are interesting to see. Below, in the valley, there is a small pond with clear mountain water (drinkable). Nice to... More

Unfortunately, since we made for ourselves quite busy plan of going around Sicily, we had only 3 hours to spend in Pantalica which is definetly not enough. Next year we ll definetly come for all day to do the full tour! We came from the Sortino entrance. The nature around takes breath, you re walking next to very beautiful canyon,... More

Although we were with a real archaeologist who'd showed us some pretty impressive things already, we weren't prepared for this: an isthmus of land, surrounded by extremely high sheer cliffs into which are cut THOUSANDS of burial sites. The scope is mind-boggling! You don't need a guide, but some time studying the comments here or a reliable guide book will... More
