Wonderful views from the ramparts. And a fascinating history: early 13 century but owned by Nelson at one point! The gothic hall with the row of iron-banded columns is beautiful.

We didn't pay to go in, but its worth walking down to see (nice views of the sea) if you are visiting Ortigia. At the very tip of the island.

We paid €4 pp to enter. Check opening times as the ticket office was closed when we came out (13.30pm?). Great views from various sections. Spacious. The ceramic grenades in the museum were interesting.

Castle is quite a grand nomenclature for this little fort, However, it is worth a visit although you will need to use your imagination as there only remains the empty shell.

We must have gotten lucky, as most of the castle seemed open when we were there in early September 2018. The only big part still under renovation that we couldn’t go was the inner most courtyard, but you could see it through the glass panels...More
