Suddenly realised on our last day in Ortigia that the entry to this was right opposite our appartment and basically is a load of tunnels that go underneath Piazaa duomo! It's not well signed up to be honest but is a little doorway in a...More

An atmospheric collection of tunnels, well lit with fascinating but seemingly random information boards, some about the place itself and others about other parts of Sicilian history, as a result there's no coherent explanation of the story. The exit is in a completely different street...More

Paid 5€ to wander through some underground tunnels with a few pictures on the walls. Nothing like I imagined it would be like. Felt like a total waste of money after paying 2€ to visit the spectacular Duomo next door. Got to end of tunnel...More

Deep, well-lit, stepped descent to a remarkably large central section with long passages leading off in different directions. A dome under the cathedral was a surprise! There was a display of old images of Ortigia in the main area - apparently a bid to kick-start...More

I was a bit dubious about paying €5 per person to walk through a tunnel. While the story and exhibition was interesting with insights into the history of Ortigia It is over priced.

Tunnels - old (and in some places new). Poor signboards. Many illuminated areas have broken lighting so can not be appreciated. There is some random collection of old theater sets down in the tunnels as an exhibition - but with no explanation in English. All...More

Under the duomo in the tunnels that were used diring the war but have a history much older. Strongly suggest a guided tour as no English on the written displays and when Imoverheard part of a tour, the guide was saying things that weren't even...More

Near the Duomo, there is an exhibition which in fact is nothing more than an underground tunnel with some old Greek artifacts, and pictures on the wall of World War ll bomb shelter facilities which this place was used. For €10 the unguided tour was...More
