What a wonderful experience. Others have written all about it so suffice to agree with those who record it as an unmissable experience. Descend the three levels, taking into account the little figures drawn by those searching for safety in the WWII bombings.

There is a fascinating history hidden beneath this church- a short tour we found to be a true highlight of our visit to Ortigia.

Must-See! This is an unforgettable experience descending down to the 3rd level where the mystical blue pool of crystal water purified by rocks exudes an aura of peace and tranquility.

By donation tour. Highly recommend. Very fascinating . There is a crypt, Greek tunnels and a Jewish ritual bath. I paid 5 euros per person much better than the other ritual bath tour.

The church of San Filippo Apostolo is nice, but, not noteworthy. Except for what is underneath. At the entrance to the church is a steep set of stairs which descend three levels below ground. Take the guided tour, which is free, and discover the ancient...More

My wife and I came across this church completely by accident whilst exploring some of the small alleyways in Ortigia. If we are honest, it doesn't look too inspiring from the outside, but is absolutely beautiful inside, and glad we took the time to have...More
